All the updates we've heard about a potential Encanto 2 (a spin-off, perhaps?)

Encanto blew audiences and critics away with its clever storytelling, colorful animation, and heartfelt story with a strong focus on family. Not to mention, an incredibly fun and catchy soundtrack! It took me weeks to get "We Don't Talk About Bruno" out of my head.

At the box office, the movie gathered $256.7 million worldwide. Encanto became the highest-grossing animated movie in 2021 but was later surpassed by Sing 2. The movie also won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and a Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media, among several other awards and nominations across the board. Needless to say, fans are wondering if a sequel is happening after rumors surfaced after the release of the original. Below, we share everything we know. And keep this page handy as we'll be updating it with new information as more details surface.

Encanto 2 updates aren't too optimistic

Unfortunately, the last update we have about an Encanto sequel came in October 2017. Speaking with The Direct, Yvett Merino, one of the producers of the first movie, shared that the Disney team continues to "look at different ways" they can keep the magic of Encanto alive.

"“I think we will continue to work on what that actually means. But we are so blown away by the reaction and how 'Encanto' kind of connected with so many people. We continue to look at different ways that we can keep the world alive. I know they teased a little bit of destination D23 about something 'Encanto' coming, possibly to one of the parks. And we love that…”"

We're sad there have not been more updates, considering what a success the first movie was. On the bright side, Encanto does nicely wrap up the story of the Madrigal family. However, there's still a lot of story to tell. So, perhaps, a spin-off?

I know I'm not the only one who wants to learn more about Bruno. What was he up to all those years hiding behind the walls of his own home? What other family events did Bruno predict? A Bruno-focused movie would be great to have!
