Big Brother isn't coming to CBS in June (but we won't have to wait too long for season 26)

With the fall TV season coming to a close and all of our favorite fall shows signing off for the summer, the networks are looking ahead to summer and the return of their summer staples. For CBS, the biggest series coming back this summer is Big Brother which is honestly our favorite guilty pleasure show and always marks the official start of summer. 

Typically, new seasons have kicked off in June but recent seasons have been arriving a bit later in the summer and sadly that seems to be the plan for season 26 as well. CBS has dropped its summer schedule and Big Brother fans are going to have to wait until July for the new season to kick off as CBS has opted to hold the show’s return until late July. 

Big Brother season 26 premieres this July

As confirmed by CBS, Big Brother will return for its twenty-sixth season this July with a two-night premiere event planned to kick off the season. The season will begin on Wednesday, July 17 at 9/8c as the new Houseguests move into the Big Brother House for the summer. The premiere will then continue the following night with the show’s Thursday night debut on July 18 at 9/8c. 

The two-night premiere hints that we could be in for some sort of twist to kick off the season as two-night premieres tend to work best when there is a big cliffhanger the show leaves fans with in the season premiere. CBS hasn’t yet revealed the theme for the new season or what twists might be awaiting us, simply teasing that the new season will be full of twists and turns. 

Following the two-part premiere, fans can look forward to new episodes of Big Brother airing every Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday night at 9/8c. That’s right, it looks like CBS will keep a more consistent schedule this season with every episode airing at the same time instead of mixing in episodes that air at both 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. ET. 

Big Brother 2024 is likely to have all new Houseguests instead of returning players

While CBS hasn’t shared much about the new season of Big Brother outside of its premiere date and schedule, the synopsis for the season does include a subtle tease that offers up a major hint of what’s to come. In the season teaser, CBS notes that season 26 kicks off as a group of all-new Houseguests move into the Big Brother House. Notice the use of “all-new” in that tease. 

This seems to hint that we’ll be getting a fresh group of players and won’t be seeing any returning players entering the mix. Honestly, that’s likely for the best. 

Sure we love seeing returning players back in the game, but it’s always fun when we get a new group of houseguests as it allows us to see a new eave of players navigating the game. And how can we get new favorites without new Houseguests? 

What is going to be interesting is to see how many Houseguests will be moving into the Big Brother House this summer and whether any might share connections to former players or even hail from other CBS series. After all, we did just see Circe from Survivor play last summer alongside her son. 

The one thing we do hope to see this season is a mix of players of all ages and races, as it’s been nice to see more diversity in the house in recent seasons. This added diversity to the Houseguests has also helped prevent minority Houseguests from being picked off early in the game and allows for better representation within the game.
