Bob's Burgers recap: The Nightmare 2 Days Before Christmas

It is time to deck the halls and get ready for a Bob's Burgers holiday episode. With the strike taking place, this has been a rarity for the series this year.

Thankfully with the strike now resolved, this hopefully won't be an issue for 2024. Either way, we were lucky enough to get a Christmas-themed episode. Even though Thanksgiving is Bob's favorite holiday, Christmas can always be a handful.

Regardless, holidays are always the best with Bob's Burgers. If you're like me, this new Christmas episode will be added to your holiday rotation. If there's one thing the series will do, it's make you appreciate your own Christmases.

With that being said, it's time to talk about "The Nightmare 2 Days Before Christmas" which is the last episode for 2023. If you're not caught up, then there will be spoilers from this point on so make sure to catch up before 2024 begins.

Here's what you missed on "The Nightmare 2 Days Before Christmas."

The episode begins on December 23 with the Belchers relaxing until the power goes out and the entire electric panel goes out. Due to that, the family won’t have power for 3 or 4 days so Mr. Fischoeder puts the Belchers up at his old hunting lodge. They agree to stay there as long as Linda can bring her Christmas decorations. Louise immediately starts to feel nervous that Santa will forget about them and things only get worse as the car starts sliding on the road.

The Belchers finally get there but as soon as they get there, Linda realizes the tree is gone and starts freaking out. Linda wants to go look for it but Bob tells her no due to bad weather. Once they get inside, they see how nice it is but some of the paintings and other decor are a bit unorthodox.

The next day, the family is having breakfast and Louise starts to worry about not having cookies for Santa. To make things better, she suggests cutting down a tree outside for Christmas and Linda decides to compromise but they can’t find one. She decides to go look for the tree while Bob stays at the lodge with the kids.

Linda ends up finding the tree while Louise wants to leave a message for Santa. She wants to give up but finds some skis to help while Linda is still struggling to get the tree to the car. Bob starts to get worried and goes to look for Linda. She ends up decorating it in her own way since she can’t bring it with her. Eventually, the family is reunited and they come back to the kids making their own tree and covering the picture for Bob. The episode ends with the family getting ready to bake cookies together.

The 2023 Bob's Burgers Christmas episode is adorable.

Given that there haven’t been any other holiday episodes this season, “The Nightmare 2 Days Before Christmas” had a lot to live up to. As you might imagine, the cast and crew of Bob’s Burgers absolutely nailed it.

Despite the absurdity of the episode, the series managed to give us a bit of everything. There were a few funny moments and some wtf moments but on the whole, the episode was heartfelt. On the whole, the episode had one of the best endings as the kids did something special for their parents and it was just incredibly sweet.

While Bob’s Burgers is more a sitcom/family-centered show, things can go off the rails but for this year, it just worked out in the best way. The plotlines all worked together in tandem to make a fun and memorable episode. This is definitely going on my list of Bob’s Burgers Christmas episodes to rewatch annually.
