Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 release date finally announced (and it's coming sooner than we expected!)
Attention Criminal Minds: Evolution fans! We now have a premiere date for the second season of the Paramount+ series after months of waiting for the show’s return. Let’s go over what we know about the series and where it stands.
We won’t have to wait long at all to see the BAU solving crimes once again. The show is set to return on June 6, 2024, so make sure to catch the first episode when it begins streaming. When the release date comes, fans will be able to watch the first two episodes before the rest of the episodes drop every Thursday after the premiere.
Just like the first season, there will be 10 episodes total and it will involve the team looking into Gold Star, which they discovered after looking for a serial killer who created a network of serial killers during the pandemic.
The series stars Paget Brewster, Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez, and Kirsten Vangsness. The main cast will be returning, along with some recurring characters we met in the first season, including Ryan-James Hatanaka, who played Tyler Green. He was the brother of a murder victim who Penelope Garcia (Vangsness) formed a relationship with. Plus, we will also see the return of Zach Gilford, who played Elias Voit, who created the serial killer network.
There is no word on whether we will see previous actors such as Matthew Gray Gubler, Shemar Moore, and Daniel Henney. But we would love to see the return of these familiar faces if the chance comes. However, with Moore’s series S.W.A.T. being renewed for a surprise season 8, we may not get to see Derek Morgan return. But things could change!
The season will follow the team as they look into the mysterious Gold Star, which was a phrase that was mentioned at the end of season 1 and seemed to hold some weight. Plus, Elias Voit will return in an effort to make a deal for a reduced sentence. He might have answers about the mysterious entity that the FBI is looking for.
A synopsis for the season also reveals that this will be the team’s biggest threat they have yet to face and there will be no escape from the mind-bending consequences.
Actress Felicity Huffman will also be joining the series as someone connected to a fallen former FBI Agent, Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin). She will be playing Gideon’s ex-wife, Dr. Jill Gideon, who is present to help the team look into Gold Star.
Her character description touts her as a "brilliant biological psychiatrist” and, despite her history with the BAU, she is willing to help them with the case.
Another mystery fans will have to wonder about is the exit of Josh Stewart, who played Agent Jennifer Jareau’s husband, Will LaMontange. The series will likely explain his absence right away, but for now, that is another mystery we’re looking forward to unfolding.
You can get ready for the new season by watching the first 15 seasons of the original Criminal Minds on Paramount+, as well as season one of Criminal Minds: Evolution. Make sure to check back for more updates as we learn more about the upcoming season.
