Now that Criminal Minds: Evolution is in the process of preparing for season 2, we’re excited to finally see the return of the characters we know and love. Unfortunately, we won’t get to see at least one recurring character who has been with the series since season 2 of the original show.

In a surprising exit, actor Josh Stewart announced on Twitter/X that he would not be returning for Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2. Stewart has played Will LaMontagne, the husband of Agent Jennifer ‘JJ’ Jareau since season 2 when the series began.

He replied to a user who asked if he would be back for the new season. But unfortunately, fans were met with bad news. He said in his post, “No sadly, my days of playing Will LaMontagne Jr. are over. You guys have been the absolute best.”

This was surprising news, especially since he appeared in nearly all of the episodes of Criminal Minds: Evolution season 1. His arc focused on Will’s health and the fear that he could have cancer. So fans were left hopeful we would continue to see him and JJ as they grew in their marriage.

Josh Stewart exits Criminal Minds. What does this mean for JJ Jareau?

So does this mean something happens to Will or does it mean we just won’t see him at all? Since production has just begun, we don’t know anything yet about what will happen.

At this time, we can expect to see the return of the main cast who appeared in the first season. There has been no other casting news over whether anyone will be exiting or returning, such as in the case of Matthew Gray Gubler or Daniel Henney, who played Spencer Reid and Matthew Simmons respectively.

So far, this is just the first in a series of updates regarding the show. We will continue to keep you updated on what we know about Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote.
