Just in time for Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 to be released on Paramount+, it’s already been announced that a new season is already planned! We certainly do love early renewals, especially when we can watch the newest season with the knowledge that there will be more to come from the series.

This means we will get a third season of the series. While we obviously won’t have any information yet about the season's focus, we will likely get an idea of what to expect once the last few episodes of season 2 stream.

We do know so far, depending on how the Gold Star mystery plays out, it could have implications for the BAU that stretch out past season 2. The show's sophomore run will take place just two weeks after the events of the final episode of season 1. So it will pick up quickly as the team works on the aftermath of the Sicarius/Elias Voit ordeal.

When the season premieres on June 6, we will see the BAU work to figure out what the mysterious entity known as Gold Star is about. Plus, Zach Gilford will return as Elias Voit, the main unsub from season 1 who has continued to attempt his mind games with the FBI. How he will be involved with Gold Star is something we will likely find out soon.

What we know about Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2

Ryan-James Hatanaka will also return for season 2 as Tyler Green, the former witness turned informant, who will work with the FBI, including Penelope Garcia, with whom he had a brief relationship. He was upped to series regular status, so we’re looking forward to seeing his role develop as we get to know him more outside of the case itself.

Other stars who will appear for season 2 include Felicity Huffman as Dr. Jill Gideon, who was married to former Agent Jason Gideon, and also has a complicated relationship with David Rossi. While her appearance is set for later in the season, we’re excited to see how she is related to the Gold Star mystery.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.S. star Clark Greggs will also be joining for the newest season. He will play FBI Director Ray Madison. He’s responsible for giving Voit the deal that will lead him to assisting the BAU as they look into Gold Star.

Unfortunately, we already know we won't see the likes of former cast members including Matthew Gray Gubler, Daniel Henney, and Josh Stewart, who played JJ Jareau's husband Will LaMontagne. Despite their absences, we hope that we will get to see them in the future, especially with the announcement of a renewal.

There is so much to look forward to as we prepare for Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2. Now knowing that we will have another season of the show just makes it more exciting!

Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 premieres on Thursday, June 6 on Paramount+ with two new episodes. Then one new episode will air each week until the finale in August. Keep an eye on Hidden Remote for more updates about the series.
