Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 may be over, but we’re already looking forward to what happens next. Even though it’s still early, we do know the show will be back for season 3. Plus, the season 2 finale already set up a possible arc that will continue to involve Elias Voit (Zach Gilford).

In the season 2 finale, Voit had started his prison sentence, where he for some reason had requested to be put into the general population. In the final scene, he was attacked while doing laundry. Almost immediately, based on his previous behavior and how diabolical he could be, there were suspicions that he planned this himself. There is no doubt Voit is prepared to do whatever it takes to get out of prison as soon as possible.

Here's what we know about the upcoming season!

Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3 is in production!

While we don't have a release date for the third season, we can share that the series is filming which means we can likely expect Criminal Minds: Evolution to make its return sometime in 2025. Actress Kirsten Vangsness shared to her Instagram a video she took at the first table read for the season and below you'll find images from the filming of episode 1.

What will the season be about?

It’s too early to tell what the new season will entail. What we do know is Voit will likely still be a part of the story as he could make things difficult for the BAU if he survives the attack and tries to place the blame on them. Plus, we may also get to see one of the other profilers become the focus of the season, as it was for Agent David Rossi in season 1 and Agent Emily Prentiss in season 2.

In an interview with The Wrap, showrunner Erica Messer mentioned using the call sheet as a guide in who would be next in terms of which profiler would be central to the season. Based on what happened in season 2, it could be JJ since she had a lot happening in terms of BAU-gate

Cast

So far, it looks like all of the cast members from the last three seasons will join, including Ryan-James Hatanaka, who joined the cast as Tyler Green and was last seen in the show having submitted his resume to the FBI.

There is no official confirmation if we will see former stars such as Daniel Henney and Matthew Gray Gubler. This is all dependent on scheduling, as showrunner Erica Messer has spoken before about wanting to bring them back. The series stars Joe Mantegna, Paget Brewster, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez, and Aisha Tyler.

Since production only just begun, we don’t have a trailer or photos for promotion as of yet. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote for more coverage of Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3 as we learn more about what will happen with the BAU. Follow us on X!
