With streaming services becoming more expensive, many people are making decisions about which platforms to keep on their subscription lists, and which to unsubscribe from. Looking to Hulu in 2024, the combination of comedies, dramas, reality programming and documentary series make Hulu a must-have for the year. And one of the top new series coming to the site at the beginning of the year is Death and Other Details.

Death and Other Details is a new original mystery series that follows a young woman who becomes the prime suspect in a locked-room murder mystery while aboard an ocean liner. The series has hints of Knives Out, The White Lotus, and Murder on the Nile, especially since the detective in the new series, Rufus Cotesworth (played by Mandy Patinkin), is described as being like a Hercule Poirot.

There will be 10 episodes in all, with the first two episodes premiering on Hulu on January 16. Expect there to then be one episode weekly, with a two-episode finale on March 5. Along with Death and Other Details, here are four more series that we think make a Hulu subscription a must-have in 2024.

FEUD season 2, Capote vs. The Swans

The second installment of Ryan Murphy's FEUD series, Capote vs The Swans is set to premiere on Hulu in early 2024. The miniseries takes place in the 1970s, following the fallout from the “La Côte Basque 1965” short story being published in Esquire., and ends with Truman Capote’s death in 1984.

The show stars Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny, Calista Flockhart, Molly Ringwald and Demi Moore, and is expected to be one of the most talked-about new dramas on the platform. Watch the teaser trailer below to learn more about the series.

Daughters of the Cult

Another reason we love Hulu is because the platform is able to bring its subscribers current documentary stories through its partnership with ABC News. One of the most anticipated new documentaries from ABC News in 2024 is the five-part series Daughters of the Cult.

The mini-series is said to be a "deep-dive into the history of the polygamous Ervil LeBaron cult told directly through the eyes of the people who were there." The Mormon fundamentalist cult lived throughout the Southwest US and in Mexico, and was orchestrated by the violent Ervil LeBaron.

All five episodes of the series will be released on January 4, 2024.

Shogun

Shogun is a period historical drama set in Japan in the year 1600 "at the dawn of a century-defining civil war". The series is highly anticipated, especially since the story is an original adaptation of the popular novel of the same name by James Clavell, and a successful tv mini-series of the same story first aired in 1980.

The 10 episode mini-series premieres February 27, 2024, and stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis, and Anna Sawai. Watch the trailer below to learn more about Shogun.

Welcome to Wrexham season 3

Fans can expect to see the return of several favorite scripted, reality, and documentary series on Hulu in 2024, and one of the most anticipated new seasons that has already been confirmed is Welcome to Wrexham's third season.

The sports documentary series follows Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney on their journey to build up the Wrexham football club in Wales, the third oldest professional football club in the world. Each episode balances sports stakes with personal, heartfelt stories of real people connected to the team and town of Wrexham.
