Criminal Minds: Evolution is finally back! The hit series will be debuting its second season on Paramount+ beginning on Thursday, June 6 with two new episodes dropping at 12:01 a.m. PST/3:01 a.m. EST. After an exciting return in 2022, the BAU agents are back and better than ever as they tackle a new mystery following the first season's events.

New episodes of the season will air each week until the finale on August 1. There will be 10 episodes total, just like in season 1. And, the series has gotten a renewal ahead of the season 2 premiere, so we can count on the BAU coming back for a third season. Here's the full release schedule for this season.

  • Episode 1-2: Thursday, June 6
  • Episode 3: June 13
  • Episode 4: June 20
  • Episode 5: June 27
  • Episode 6: July 4
  • Episode 7: July 11
  • Episode 8: July 18
  • Episode 9: July 25
  • Episode 10: August 1

From what we know about season 2, the team will be looking into what Gold Star is. All we know so far is that to strike a deal after being caught for creating a network of serial killers, Zach Gilford’s Elias Voit used this phrase to gain the upper hand against the FBI.

The agents don’t know what Gold Star is but it will be the main theme of the season. We’re looking forward to seeing the team members again, although there will be one face missing from the series.

Actor Josh Stewart, who played Agent JJ Jareau’s husband Will LaMontange Jr., will not be part of the second season. We don’t know exactly how they will write out his character. In season one, he had a health scare, but it seemed as though things were looking up. It might just be that we don’t see as many scenes with JJ’s family. If we do see her sons Henry and Michael again, they could just explain that Will is elsewhere.

We’re also looking forward to seeing how things shape up between Penelope Garcia and Tyler Green, who was a witness who had been following Voit ever since the disappearance of his sister years earlier. Now an informant, he had a connection with Garcia that could have hindered the case while they tracked down Voit. So will we see a triangle between Penelope, Tyler, and Luke? Even though it’s unlikely, with all of the interpersonal relationships on the show, you never know!

Speaking of romance, Tara also had her own love with Rebecca Wilson, a lawyer who was connected to the case. Even though they are no longer together, we may still see the two working together, especially with Elias Voit still in the picture causing chaos.

Another exciting thing to look forward to is someone connected to a long-deceased character, Jason Gideon. Felicity Huffman will be joining the series as Dr. Jill Gideon, who has what is described as a complicated history regarding not only her ex-husband but also David Rossi. She will debut in episode 7 for a three-episode arc as she helps the team with the Gold Star mystery.

There are so many possible story lines to look forward to when Criminal Minds: Evolution returns and we can't wait to see what will happen!
