The Equalizer just wrapped up a strong season 4 finale that sets up some big moves for season 5! Here’s what we know so far about the coming new season!

Caution: This article contains SPOILERS for The Equalizer Season 4 finale

The season 4 finale had Robyn and Dante, after years of dancing around, finally dating. That was thrown when Dante was offered a big promotion that would have him join a task force in Los Angeles. Robyn at first seemed willing to let him go for his career, which had her chewed out by Vi.

Things took a turn when Mel was kidnapped by a member of her support group. He and his brother blamed Mel for killing their father in a raid years ago. Harry tried to use M.E.L. only to have the AI decide she was the “real” Mel and refuse to help. Luckily, Fisk was able to show that the father was still alive and helping the CIA with information. The sons didn’t take it well, ending with both dying.

In the aftermath, realizing M.E.L. had grown beyond his control, Harry deleted the AI program. Mel herself announced that the entire ordeal had made her realize she couldn’t keep up with the team’s jobs and was stepping away. Robyn went to Dante, begging him to stay in New York with her, only to learn he’d already accepted the job and kissed her before leaving.

That's a big way to end season 4 so what does Season 5 have in store for the show?

Who’s coming back for The Equalizer season 5?

While Dante’s departure may be throwing fans, there’s no word that Tory Kittles is leaving the show. The actor talked to Screen Rant about what he hopes to see for the character, indicating he’d be staying.

"We actually have talked about some things that we can get into. Joe Wilson, our showrunner, is such a great collaborator. We have such great producers, starting with Queen Latifah and her team at Flavor Unit, and Debra Martin Chase, and everybody at CBS. We're going to push the envelope, and we're going to continue to open up the scope of the show. We realize that this is an international show, and we're speaking to millions across the globe. We really want to continue to ride that wave and give audiences what they want. I look forward to that. I look forward to getting bigger and better and continuing to find the nuance in each of these characters."

It’s likely the first episodes of season 5 will have Dante in L.A. with McCall in New York but something will probably reunite them. Dante is still dealing with the revelation he has a half-brother out there and other issues with his father to handle.

It seems the rest of the cast is likewise going to be intact, so there will likely be no real changes for season 5.

What will season 5 be about?

Besides Dante, a plotline will no doubt be Mel dealing with the guilt of what happened to those brothers and how it affects her life. She may want to stay out of the whole Equalizing business but can’t stop helping others. Harry will have realized creating the AI program was a mistake and be trying to understand his wife better, but it’s hard to see them not helping Robyn out.

Delilah might get a good boost as she rejected the idea of military school and has hinted she wants to follow in her mom’s footsteps. While Robyn obviously hates the idea of her daughter in this life, she knows how stubborn Delilah is, and it’s better that she get some training to do this.

Obviously, there’s more up in the air with plotlines and such but The Equalizer does have a good way to build up new plotlines for each season so season 5 should be no different.

Season 4 was only 10 episodes due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes but season 5 will have a total of 18 episodes.

The Equalizer season 5 premiere release window

So far, CBS hasn’t announced the premiere date for season 5, but it’s likely going to be in the last week of September or early October. With a good Sunday night time slot at 9 p.m. ET and some great plotlines to build on, season 5 of The Equalizer should be better than ever.

The Equalizer seasons 1-4 streaming are on Paramount+.
