Elsbeth reveals the first major guest star killer for season 2 and his motive!

Elsbeth has just revealed who the first guest star killer for season 2 will be and it's a huge name for the show!

Elsbeth has just revealed who the first killer guest star for season 2 is and it’s a huge name! Find out who here!

One of the best surprises of the 2024 TV season has been Elsbeth. At first, it seemed a strange idea: Carrie Preston reprised her Emmy-winning role as Elsbeth Tascioni, the incredibly quirky lawyer from The Good Wife and its spin-off The Good Fight. 

Rather than be a legal dramedy, this new show is a throwback to the mystery series of the 1970s. Elsbeth has moved to New York City, where she’s an observer for the NYPD. She’s soon involved in murder cases where her unusual mind allows her to piece together clues to solve it.

What makes the show notable is that, like Columbo, it’s a “reverse whodunnit” in that the audience sees from the start who the killer is. The thrill of the episode then becomes Elsbeth playing a fun game with the killer before proving their guilt. 

Season 1 was marked by a great bevy of guest stars as the killers that including Jane Karkowski, Andre DeShields, Gina Gershon, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and more. Season 2 seems set for more guest stars, even if a few are being kept quiet for now.

However, we know who the first major guest star of season 2 will be and it’s a big one!

Who's guest starring in Elsbeth season 2?

TVLine provided an exclusive sneak peek of season 2, which shows Nathan Lane as the first guest star. He plays Phillip Cross, an opera lover who is so obsessed that when he hears a ringing cell phone marring a performance, he’s driven to silence the user. 

Lane is, of course, a major name from his breakout voicing Timon in The Lion King to movies such as The Birdcage and his Tony-award-winning role in The Producers. He also starred in Only Murders in the Building, which added an Emmy to his bevy of awards.

The actor does have experience in The Good Wife world playing the recurring role of Clarke Hayden. However, producers Tom and Michelle King are enjoying using Good Wife guest stars in other roles in their shows, so casting Lane is no problem. 

Lane appears to fit well into the role using his real-life love of opera for the part. It will also be delightful seeing him and Preston face-off as Elsbeth tries to figure out how and why he committed this crime.

There are still some big guest stars coming but Lane’s presence should kick Elsbeth season 2 off in a wonderful way and retain the fun that made this show a hit.
