Evil is finally meeting its end as Paramount+ confirmed that the upcoming season 4 will be the last for the supernatural drama series.

Premiering on CBS in 2019, Evil focuses on a unique trio: Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), a forensic psychologist; Catholic seminarian David Acosta (Mike Colter) and skeptical technology contractor Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi). The Catholic Church hires them to investigate events from possible demonic possessions to hauntings and more. The trio can often argue as to whether these events are truly supernatural or more mundane explanations.

The show was hailed by critics but failed to find a proper audience for the network. It was thus moved to Paramount+ in 2021. The series has since amped up its insane storylines with Michael Emerson as the mysterious Leland Townsend and the implications the trio are facing the Devil himself preparing for an attack.

Season 4 had wrapped up production just as the WGA strike hit last May. Deadline now confirms it will be the final year for the show in what sounds like a mutual creative decision. Also, it appears Paramount+ is allowing the producers to make an additional four episodes to the planned 10 episode order in order to wrap up the series.

The producers of Evil speak and a teaser

The news came with the first teaser for season 4, showing the main characters and a hint of even more crazy antics to come.

Jeff Grossman, Executive Vice President of Programming for Paramount+ offered thanks to creators Robert and Michelle King.

"Robert and Michelle King created a unique and deeply entertaining way of exploring the intersection of religion and science. We thank Robert, Michelle and the immensely talented cast and crew of Evil and are incredibly proud of their collective work on the series. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for these characters, in what is sure to be a nail-biting, wild ride of a final season."

The Kings also had their own statement on how they were happy to be given the chance to end the show with their own style.

"We want to thank Paramount+ for giving us four bonus episodes to end Evil in the world in style. We will miss this show and cast. In many ways it was a dream project, but sadly evil will outlast Evil. See you in May."

So can this be the end of the show?

Can Evil be saved?

Reacting in a now deleted tweet, Herbers shared her sadness but also the intriguing suggestion about Netflix saving the show. The post reportedly read as follows according to TVLine:

We’re all super sad @paramountplus has decided season 4 is our last. @netflix u up? Care to snatch up the goods??

It would be a good move for Netflix to pick up the show although there are a few rights issues between the studios. It also appears the series is heading toward a definitive finale with the extra episodes. Yet Herbers speaks for many fans in how letting the show continue would be great.

There’s no exact premiere date for when season 4, but it's expected to start in May. So, while fans are sad to see Evil coming to an end, everyone promises it to be a wrap up fitting for such a bizarre but entertaining series.

Evil seasons 1-3 are streaming on Paramount+.
