Family Guy is coming to Comedy Central, here's when!
Family Guy will have another network home this September. In a recent licensing deal, Disney granted permission for Paramount to broadcast on their network, Comedy Central. The animated comedy follows the Griffin family's chaotic and often dysfunctional life in Quahog, Rhode Island.
Deadline was the first to report the deal between the major networks, and Family Guy will join Beavis and Butt-head, Futurama, and Comedy Central's very own South Park in the primetime schedule. The negotiation will not reflect Family Guy being removed from FOX, FXX, or its streamer, Hulu. It just means the show will have an additional channel to air, accumulating more fans into Family Guy's strong fanbase.
Season 23 will premiere on FOX's 2025 midseason schedule and be part of the Animation Domination block, a move that hasn't been made in nearly two decades. The network's decision is disappointing as FOX had to make room for their new show, Universal Basic Guys, premiering on Sept. 8.
However, we don't have to wait until January to receive new episodes, as Hulu will be rolling out holiday specials in October and December. We'll get a celebrity-led Halloween episode with Glen Powell, and I expect to see typical Family Guy narratives in the Christmas one since we've been spoiled with classics such as "Road To The Northpole" and "A Very Special Family Guy Freakin' Christmas."
Honestly, these two episodes are always on my annual holiday watch list because one always needs a laugh during the busy season and to unwind. And, of course, we can rewatch some of our favorite episodes from either Comedy Central, FXX, or Hulu until the mid-season arrives.
When is Family Guy coming to Comedy Central?
Starting Sept. 2, Comedy Central will host an all-day Family Guy marathon, starting with its 1999 pilot episode, "Death Has A Shadow." The comedy will then be part of the adult animation primetime lineup on Sept. 3, where it'll nest with other fan-favorite animated shows.
According to Deadline, Laurel Weir, Paramount/MTV/Showtime's Head of Programming and Executive Vice President, spoke about Family Guy's entrance to Comedy Central.
"We are excited to welcome Family Guy to Comedy Central, [where it will join] the best in adult animation alongside South Park, Futurama, Beavis and Butt-Head, among others. Delivering bold, irreverent, and culturally impactful content to our fans is our top priority, which makes Family Guy the perfect complement to our robust adult animation slate."
As Family Guy turns 25 this year, it continues to deliver pop culture satire with a razor-sharp edge. However, the series has encountered some hiccups over the years. At its start, Family Guy projected rather crude disability material. While it was designed to be part of the comedic routine, it still felt offensive to members of the diverse community affected by that content. Despite this writing flaw, Family Guy remains a legend on television and will not be ending anytime soon.
