We were all wondering who Bode was speaking to in the Fire Country season 2 teaser that saw him saying being in jail is where he belongs. It turns out that his words were directed to his former captain, Manny Perez, as well as his father, Vince Leone, who is wearing depression like a shroud.

Apparently, it's been SIX MONTHS since Bode lied at his parole hearing and confessed to a crime he did not commit. The only person he's allowing to visit him is Vince, which doesn't bode well for his relationship with Gabriela. Bode hasn't told a soul why he's choosing to rot away in prison when he didn't do drugs while at Three Rock Fire Camp and wasn't running a whole drug enterprise while there either.

This could, of course, be his attempt at ensuring that his friend Freddie's freedom isn't taken away. Bode took the fall for Sleeper's actions so that Freddie's release wouldn't get jammed up by red tape and the DA's office playing with a man's life in order to collar whoever best fit the bill regardless of who actually did the crime.

But there could also be something deeper here. We have yet to learn what Bode has been getting up to in prison. The teaser showed him having to defend himself, and we do know that he and his cellmate, Cole, have a rapport. However, we're still being kept in the dark with everything. While I'd speculated before that perhaps it's Gabriela that he's speaking to on his contraband phone in the teasers, it's quite possible it's someone else.

Maybe there's another reason Bode hasn't advocated for himself the way that he should. Or, it's possible, he actually is doing that and is trying to prove his innocence by gathering information on Sleeper's operation in prison. Either way though, it's so like Bode to be dealing with mess and also trying to make sure the people he loves don't get dragged down with him just in case it all goes wrong.
