Ghosts season 4 is happening: Here's everything we know so far!
The season 3 finale of Ghosts ("Isaac's Wedding") on May gave us plenty of shocking surprises and even a curious cliffhanger ending. It's even more of a gasp because it's Isaac's (Brandon Scott Jones) turn to be "sucked,' due to a past accidental incident he committed years ago and one he tried to get away from.
Before Isaac's suction, the anticipated wedding between him and Nigel (John Hartman) fell apart at the last minute as Isaac realized he had some unchartered self-discovery to do, thanks to Pete's (Ritchie Moriarty) impactful speech, who also had a bit of a (tropical) journey. The one thing about the spirits haunting Woodstone Manor is that they're never still, and with season 4 officially in the writing process, more adventures are on their way.
But the main question on everyone's mind is: Who is Patience, the underground ghost who wants revenge on Isaac? Thus far, we know Patience is a Puritan buried underground by Isaac, whom she met in 1895, and was buried by Isaac accidently when he sneezed. It sounds pretty innocent, but Patience must have thought it was intentional. She rose from the undead when Flower (Sheila Carrasco) struck up a friendship with her while down in the well.
Season 4 will uncover Patience's vengeful act and her history. Interestingly enough, being a Puritan, she most likely lived in the 1600s and was likely a witness or a participant in the New York Witch Trials. If this narrative rings true, then Patience's sorcery or at least knowledge of the Occult will be an exciting twist in Ghosts lore. If anything, there is no overabundance of creating the magic of Ghosts and the realms it'll lead to, as everyone's past is substantial.
With that said, let's see what might be in store for the fourth season of Ghosts!
Ghosts season 4: What we know so far
Ghosts has the finale tradition of being "sucked off" with one of their spiritual characters. In season 3, it was initially believed to be Flower, and now it's Isaac. I love that we get some mystery as it provides more depth to the characters and the storylines and sets the sitcom apart from others attempting to do the same troupe.
Season 4 may be months away, with high hopes that it'll premiere in September, but writers Joe Port and Joe Wiseman dropped a few vital hints with TVLine following the finale. During their interview, it was revealed that we would see Isaac again, Patience's ultimate reveal, and just how long Isaac will be gone before the other ghosts realize he's been missing.
"[Patience] is a Puritan woman and she’s pissed off, to start, because she has an axe to grind, obviously, with Isaac, who she’s taken hostage now. That’s going to be the first order of business to open [in season 4 ]. First of all, everyone has to find out that he’s missing, which they soon will, and then they have to get Isaac back."
- Joe Wiseman
Adding to that, Wiseman further elaborated on how the ghosts will deal with Patience, noting that it won't be easy, seeing as she has issues. By the sounds of it, Patience isn't going to allow anyone to stand in her way.
" I think it’s sort of scary that there’s a feral Pilgrim who’s been roaming the dirt for 100-plus years and is now lurking around. I think [the other ghosts] are going to be shocked."
However, there's always that glimmer of hope for connection. After all, the Woodstone ghosts live in continuous purgatory and thrive on their friendships. We have seen some great developed arcs and there's always room for more. Perhaps, the same will happen to Patience, as Port discussed the possibility.
"[The ghosts are ] going to be [making] an effort to try to understand Patience and win her over."
As for the Isaac and Nigel romance, Brandon Scott Jones opened up to Deadline regarding whether it's truly the end for them or if they'll reconcile and patch things up. As an Isaac fan, it was nice to see him happy in a loving relationship, but it also showed his vulnerable side, something that's hard to fish out when you were a Revolutionary War soldier and had to conform to masculine ideals of the era.
Season 4 will explore more of the breakup, whether things will be friendly or sour. But the one element Jones hope for is that Isaac and Nigel become better people because of their relationship.
"If there is a path forward for [Isaac and Nigel], I can imagine it’s not going to necessarily be smooth sailing. But then again, I also don’t know. Maybe it’s good that they spend time apart and if they never get back together again, that’s okay. But hopefully they’re both better because of this relationship, and they can find some common ground somewhere, either quickly or down the road."
Cast
The starring cast will be reprising their respective roles for the upcoming fourth season. Rose McIver is nearing the end of her pregnancy, so she might be absent for a few episodes due to maternity leave but will be welcomed back. Here's the cast list!

- Utkarsh Ambudkar as Jay Arondekar
- Brandon Scott Jones as Isaac Higgintoot

Season 4 episode count (speculation)
While season 3 had a shortened season of just ten episodes due to the strikes, season 4 will likely have more. Season 1 had 18 and season 2 had 22, so with that in mind, the fourth season could have a ballpark figure with 18-22.
