Grey’s Anatomy season 20 finale honors Freddy Klein (dedication explained)

Grey’s Anatomy season 20 paid tribute to the late Freddy Klein, who played a role behind the scenes on the show.

The Grey’s Anatomy season 20 finale left fans with a lot to think about with over half the cast’s future on the show left up in the air via cliffhanger storylines. The episode was another amazing finale from a show that is known for leaving fans on the edge of their seats, but it was also a finale that ended on a bit of an unexpectedly somber note as well. 

After the final scene aired, ABC paid tribute to Freddy Klein with a dedication card designed to honor the late member of the Grey’s Anatomy family.

Typically, dedication cards such as the one that aired after the finale are used to honor late members of the cast, crew, or even someone with a strong connection to someone on the cast or crew and that was indeed the case here.

Klein is the brother of longtime Grey’s Anatomy cast and crew member Linda Klein, who has played Nurse Linda on the show over the years and has worked behind the scenes in various capacities including director and producer. It is common for shows to honor the loved ones of longtime cast and crew members, and this was indeed the case in this instance.

Linda confirmed the news of her youngest brother's passing via Facebook in March, writing, "I’m sad to say my youngest brother Fred passed away peacefully in his sleep a few days ago. Thank you all for enjoying his life and being his friend. He would light up a room with life love and laughter. He had a love of music, a remarkable personality, always bringing joy to those around him. My family and I will always Cherish the memories of his beautiful spirit and the happiness he spread wherever he went. We love you and you will be missed!!!"

She would later post a tribute to her brother on Instagram as well in which longtime Grey's Anatomy cast member Kevin McKidd was among the many to send their love to Linda and her family. "We love you Linda," wrote McKidd.

Given Linda's longstanding history with the show -- she's credited with working on over 400 episodes via her various roles -- it was quite touching to see ABC honor her late brother in the season 20 finale as they did.

Hidden Remote's deepest condolences go out to Klein's family and loved ones, as well as to the entire Grey's Anatomy cast and crew.
