Has Bob's Burgers done a disservice to Marshmallow?

Marshmallow's swift disappearance on Bob's Burgers is puzzling.
BOB'S BURGERS: A ValentineÕs Day fight between Bob and Linda has the kids feeling confused. After a failed attempt to see a movie, itÕs up to Tina, Louise and Gene to tell their own story as a distraction from the awkward tension in the "Bed, Bob and BeyondÓ episode of BOBÕS BURGERS airing Sunday, Feb. 10 (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. When it comes to animated TV series, there is none like Bob's Burgers and the show has prided itself on its inclusive cast and open-minded characters.

That's why Marshmallow has always been such a huge part of the series. Since her appearance in "Sheesh, Cab, Bob," fans have looked forward to seeing her. Plus she always seemed to have a good one-liner and it almost always gave us something to chuckle about.

In 2020, fans discussed how Marshmallow was voiced by a male voice actor who was not trans and Loren Bouchard worked on recasting her. From then on, Marshmallow has been voiced by Jari Jones who is a trans actress yet she has only appeared in one episode of Bob's Burgers thus far.

With the recent study from GLAAD discussing the lack of LGBT characters returning to our screens, could Marshmallow be among those on the list?

Why aren't we seeing more Marshmallow on Bob's Burgers?

As much as I love Bob's Burgers, I can see that the show isn't utilizing Marshmallow as much as it could be. She's such a fun character and someone who popped up enough but not too much. She came in, made her statement, and blended into the background. While she wasn't a main character, she is a great side character.

However, even with the changes to her voice actor, the show still doesn't seem to be featuring her in nearly as many episodes. One reason for that could be Jari Jones' scheduled not lining up with the show and its recording time. While that might not be the reason, it can play a role in when or if Marshmallow makes it into a scene.

The other reason for Marshmallow's disappearance could be linked to a lack of storylines focused on her. Given the amount of LGBT characters featured on the show, this seems unlikely. All in all, it's pretty sad to see such a beloved character taking a backseat as the series has been at the forefront when it comes to inclusive characters.

All in all, it seems like Bob's Burgers is just pulling out Marshmallow when they need her and that can be one of the pitfalls of loving a side character. The same can be said about Mort as he was a huge part of the series and was sort of pushed aside for Teddy. Teddy feels like an honorary Belcher but it's clear Bob's Burgers needs to find a better way to show some love to its side characters.

The other thing to consider is the strike which put things on hold and is part of the reason why Bob's Burgers hasn't aired a new episode since March. We can only hope we see more Marshmallow and the Belchers before other broadcast shows wrap up for the season.
