House cast ages: How old were the actors then and now?

House is celebrating its 20th anniversary this fall so what better time to check in on how old the cast of the FOX hit was then and now!

Premiering on Nov. 16, 2004, House centered around Gregory House, an absolute medical genius with a Sherlock Holmes ability to unravel medical mysteries that baffled other doctors. However, thanks to pain from a blood clot in his leg that had him relying on a cane, House was also an arrogant, selfish, cynical jerk insulting everyone around him. 

The show became one of FOX's biggest hits of the decade, running eight seasons with Laurie earning two Golden Globes and several Emmy nominations. It also boosted many of its cast to future stardom. So how old were the actors then and now? 

Hugh Laurie as Dr. Gregory House

Birthday:  July 11, 1959
Age when House premiered: 45
Age today: 65

While already known to British TV audiences thanks to Jeeves & Wooster and Blackadder, Hugh Laurie became a hit with American audiences as House. With a pitch-perfect American accent, Laurie nailed the role, making House a more loveable character than he should have been despite his many flaws. 

Laurie has kept up his TV work, starring in Veep, Avenue 5 and most recently the Netflix drama All The Light We Cannot See. While he's played so many great roles over the years, House will always be the one fans remember Laurie most for.

Lisa Edelstein as Dr. Lisa Cuddy

Birthday: May 21, 1966 
Age when House premiered: 38
Age today: 58

By 2004, Lisa Edelstein had become a familiar face on TV with small but memorable roles in shows like The West Wing, Ally McBeal and more. She finally got a major part in playing Lisa Cuddy, the hospital director, putting up with House's antics. The pair had an obvious chemistry that would turn into a romance later in the show's run that ended badly.

Edelstein left the show before its final season and later starred and produced the drama Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce. Edelstein has remained a great TV star, with roles in The Good Doctor and 911: Lone Star, to solidify her legacy as a woman who gets the most out of smaller screen time. 

Robert Sean Leonard as Dr. James Wilson

Birthday: February 28, 1969
Age when House premiered: 35
Age today: 55

Breaking out in the 1989 hit film Dead Poets Society, Robert Sean Leonard spent much of the late '80s and early '90s in films like Much Ado About Nothing. House marked a shift to television with Leonard playing James Wilson, House's only true friend and backing him up in various escapades. The actor was a strong presence on the show all the way to its end.

Leonard has appeared in shows such as Falling Skies, and while not as active as he used to be, he has a role in The Gilded Age to keep up his fun TV career.

Omar Epps as Dr. Eric Foreman

Birthday: July 20, 1973 
Age when House premiered: 31
Age today: 51

Omar Epps was already used to medical shows with his breakout turn as a troubled intern on ER. That gave him experience to play Eric Foreman, the brilliant neurologist who puts up with House's nonstop barbs. The actor was very capable in the role to make the character a fan favorite.

Epps had become a movie star as well with roles in The Wood but nowadays sticks to TV. That includes a recurring role on This Is Us and currently starring in the Starz crime series Power Book III: Raising Kanan, showing his amazing range that's led to success.

Jesse Spencer as Dr. Robert Chase

Birthday: February 12, 1979
Age when House premiered: 25
Age today: 45

Starting off on the Australian soap opera Neighbours, Jesse Spencer made his American acting debut as Dr. Robert Chase, the youngest member of House's team. As the series went on, he used his real accent on the show and showed he was more capable than his age with his character growing as a doctor.

Spencer has become more famous playing Matt Casey on Chicago Fire and is ready to star in the Disney+ series Last Days of the Space Age. It's interesting to see him moving from a medical hit to a firefighting hero so easily. 

Jennifer Morrison as Dr. Allison Cameron

Birthday: April 12, 1979
Age when House premiered: 25
Age today: 45

After roles in a  few minor films and TV shows, Jennifer Morrison got her big break as Allison Cameron on House. Her nice humor sparked up the show as well as being the only woman on House's team to stand out. Morrison left the show after six seasons but made an appearance for the series finale. 

Morrison landed another hit show playing Emma Swan on Once Upon a Time and is credited with helping get Glee off the ground. She also had a notable recurring role on This Is Us to show how House was a key move in Morrison's stardom. 

Kal Penn as Dr. Lawrence Kutner

Birthday: April 23, 1977
Age when joined House: 30
Age today: 47

Season 4 had the show take a huge shift as House fired his old staff, then did a reality TV show-styled competition for a new one. Among them was Lawrence Kutner, played by Kal Penn, who'd broken out in the hit movie Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle. An energetic and go-getting guy with a nice attitude, Kutner shockingly took his own life, which shook up House.

This was due to Penn leaving the show to take a position in the Obama administration. He's returned to acting with some TV credits like Designated Survivor, Clarice, and The Santa Clauses while fans still remember his stunning exit from this drama. 

Peter Jacobson as Dr. Chris Taub

Birthday: March 24, 1965
Age when joined House: 42
Age today: 59

The oldest member of House's team of new hires, Chris Taub was fired from his old medical practice for an affair with a patient and thus had to take on a new position. Used to being his own boss, he clashed a lot with House and balanced his time between being an unlikely ladies man and heaps of misfortune piled on him.

Peter Jacobson had long been one of those "hey, it's that guy" TV actors with credits on Law & Order, ER and scores of others. Since House ended, he's continued in shows such as Colony, The Americans, and NCIS: Los Angeles, with House one of the few starring regular roles in that amazing career. 

Olivia Wilde as Dr. Remy "Thirteen" Hadley 

Birthday: March 10, 1984

Age today: 40

An enigmatic figure who joined House's team in season 4, "Thirteen" (as House always called her) dealt with her own medical issues and was quite secretive of her past. She had some unique romances and even vanished for a year before returning. Eventually, she left for good to try and have a new life with her girlfriend, although she made an appearance in the series finale. 

While she'd appeared in The O.C., this was Olivia Wilde's breakout role. It boosted her to movie fame, as she starred in films such as Tron: Legacy, Cowboys & Aliens, and she is now moving into directing the hits, Booksmart and Don't Worry Darling. Her last big TV role was the HBO series Vinyl as Wilde has proven as talented behind the camera as in front of it. 

Amber Tamblyn as Martha Masters

Birthday: May 14, 1983
Age when started on House: 27
Age today: 41

When Thirteen took a leave of absence in season 7, her role was filled by medical student Martha Masters, a quirky gal whose somewhat naïve attitude that was honestly seen as amusing by House. She stood out nicely. While meaning well, Martha's attitude turned out to be too good for the job and after a tragedy involving a patient, she quit House's team.

Amber Tamblyn had broken out with her Golden Globe-winning turn on the drama Joan of Arcadia. She had only agreed to a one year role on the show, although she returned for the finale. Tamblyn has added roles on Two and a Half Men and Y: The Last Man while also being famed as an author and a cultural critic and remaining a popular figure. 

Odette Annable as Dr. Jessica Adams

Birthday: May 10, 1985
Age when joined House: 26
Age today: 39

The final season of House opened with House in jail and befriending prison doctor Jessica Adams. When Adams was fired for crossing a line helping a patient, a paroled House brought her on board to replace his missing staff. She didn't get as much screen time due to this being the last year of the show but her admiration for House and his methods was a departure from the other doctors.

Odette Annable had come off an arc on Brothers & Sisters, where she met her future husband, Dave Annable. She's become a busy TV actress with roles on Banshee, Reign on Supergirl, and starring on the The CW's Walker, so House was a great break to her future stardom. 

Charlyne Yi as Dr. Chi Park

Birthday: January 4, 1986
Age when joined House: 25
Age today: 38

The final regular main character on the show, Chi Park was a young intern who was eager to learn but also horrible with people to the point she once punched out a supervisor. She actually stood up to House with things like taking away his cane which impressed him. While much of her screen time had her putting up with his antics, she was still a nice spirit for the final season.

Charlyne Yi had done some minor TV guest roles before getting this big break. Yi has spent most their career doing animated voice work for numerous TV shows such as Steven Universe and a brief role in the recent Time Bandits as her voice gets more attention from viewers.
