Fox is still to confirm that 911: Lone Star season 5 is the last. However, there are a lot of signs that this could be the case.

Rumors started with the exit of Sierra McClain, who plays Grace on the series. There were mentions that it could be the last season, although some of the stars did try to squash those rumors. It hasn’t worked, with many fans getting ready for this to be the end.

Now Rob Lowe has hinted that this is the end. He told Variety that “It is the end of an era…”

911: Lone Star season 5 was reportedly treated as the last season

Lowe made it clear that everyone went into this series believing that it would be the last season. This mean that they put their all into it. The focus is to show what network TV can still be as long as people are interested in putting in the effort.

"We all went into it pretty much knowing that it was going to be the last season, so that affected everything we did."

It’s worth pointing out that he says that “It is the end of an era for a certain type of show.” He could be talking about these procedurals, which aren’t happening as often. When you look at the newer network shows that are coming out, they have season-long story arcs with a few case of the week storylines.

911: Lone Star is from an era where it’s all about calls or cases of the week. While there are some personal storylines that we see continued, the main focus of each episode of 911: Lone Star is the saves.

"We wanted to really show everybody what is still possible in network television if people have the appetite to do it. It feels like it’s probably the end of an era of a certain type — well, it doesn’t feel like it. It is the end of an era of a certain type of show we once had an opportunity to make, and I think they’re great."

Fox is still to confirm the cancellation of the series

As of right now, though, it’s all still rumors. There is nothing out there officially confirming that the series is coming to an end. Broadcast TV is all about the numbers. The linear ratings need to work for the cost of production. A show like 911: Lone Star is expensive to make, though.

It’s unlikely that the same deal will happen for 911: Lone Star as it did for 911. When that series got too expensive for Fox but was still popular, ABC saved it before it could be canceled. We would love to see that happen with the Texas-based spin-off, but it’s unlikely, especially as ABC has a packed schedule.

Lowe does seem to hint that this is the last season, though. The cast and crew seem to be prepared for that just in case Fox cancels it. Hopefully, it’s been written to work as a final season if that’s the case.
