Is catching up on AHS: Delicate worth it? (Spoiler alert: skip it)

Sigh. American Horror Story, they don't make them like they used to! Long gone are the days when Ryan Murphy's anthology horror series wowed viewers and kept us engaged with its clever storytelling. From the opening credits, AHS on the FX network offered unique stories with just the right amount of comedy, drama, and horror.

I say "offered" not because the series is canceled, but because I believe American Horror Story is no longer what it used to be. Seasons are now very hit-and-miss, with a lot more of the latter. The first three seasons, Murder House, Asylum, and Coven, are amazing. But quality took a nosedive after.

AHS seems to rely more now on shock factor. Bonkers, over-the-top scenes for shock value instead of focusing on making it make sense. Seasons 4-5 (Freak Show, Hotel, and Roanoke) have their ups and downs. All three seasons feature great characters, but ultimately wastes their potential.

Season 7, Cult, is a season I wish I could erase from my mind. The series does recover (at least, in my opinion) when season 8, Apocalypse rolls around. While not perfect, our favorite witches from season 3 make an appearance and it's the comeback we didn't know we needed. AHS: 1984 also has it's moments.

Double Feature and NYC, though? A pain to watch. I didn't even finish watching AHS: NYC, if I'm being honest. It is unwatchable. But one thing about American Horror Story fans is that we always come back. So when AHS: Delicate (season 12) rolled around, you bet I tuned in with all my fingers crossed.

At first, Delicate did not disappoint. On the contrary, I was truly pleasantly surprised by Kim Kardashian's performance! But that alone can't save the season, even with the help of AHS favorite Emma Roberts. Simply put, the story drags and the story is inching closer to relying on cheap jump scares and excessive disturbing content.

The second half of Delicate premieres on Wednesday, April 3. If you are not caught up on this season, I wouldn't bother! Instead, if you're really curious, wait for the season to end so that you can stream it over a long, unbusy weekend. The season finale for AHS: Delicate is on April 24.

Want to ignore me and watch anyway in hopes that the season improves? Be my guest! Just be sure to reach out to let me know if Delicate recovers in the second half or not, I won't tell you I told you so! Again, AHS: Delicate returns on Wednesday, April 3, at 9 p.m. ET, only on the FX network.
