It's a Christmas miracle! Eric wakes up on Bold and the Beautiful (Dec. 22 recap)
By Sabrina Reed
Well, it looks like The Bold and the Beautiful writers didn't want to send us off to Christmas without giving us a miracle on the soap! The episode began with Ridge, Brooke, Steffy, Bridget, and Finn being excited that Eric had begun to move. Donna was shocked but hopeful as she was brought up to speed on what was going on in the room.
They each took turns speaking with Eric trying to gauge if he could hear them or not. When it was clear that he could the decision was made that Finn was going to take him off the ventilator. He made sure to get the all clear from Eric himself whilst also telling him what he was going to be doing. The Forrester patriarch's eyes weren't open but he was responsive, letting the good doctor know what he wanted by moving his eyes under his lids.
When Finn removed his breathing tube Eric faltered at first and his vitals started to go down. His struggle made his family nervous as they urged Bridget and Finn to do something. Brooke even broke out Stephanie's Bible to start reading from it, calling on the help of a higher power. They were able to stabilize Eric until he could take a breath on his own and then he opened his eyes to the joy of his loved ones. He was asked to give them a sign that he understood what was happening and he squeezed Donna's hand since she'd been holding his.
Ridged informed his father that though he knows what had been asked of him, they weren't ready to let him go. Not when Finn had come up with a way to help him, so he made the decision to go for it and it brought him back to them. The family waited on tenterhooks to find out whether this was what Eric wanted or if he really had desired to pass on. Noticing the decorations on his hospital window, the patriarch gave his answer in the form of wishing them a "Merry Christmas" much to their delight.
They all gathered around him and Finn looked on lovingly at his wife, Steffy, who was overjoyed to have her grandfather doing well. Liam wasn't in this storyline but judging by the looks on Finn and Steffy's faces he isn't breaking this happy couple up anytime soon. This whole ordeal only further cemented their love and Steffy's trust and belief in Finn.
Back at the Forrester Mansion, Zende, Katie, RJ, and Luna were decorating the house for the holidays. Katie thought Donna would be very appreciative and that it's something Eric would want. The quartet shared their fond memories of Eric. Zende talked about how welcoming his grandfather had been when he was adopted into the family as well as when he'd returned from Europe (on the heels of a divorce) and had insisted that Zende come live with him.
While they were looking through old photos, Katie found a picture of the Logan women in bikinis in front of Eric who was dressed as Santa. She shared the picture with them much to RJ's embarrassment and stated that she was surprised Stephanie let him keep the photo.
Later, while RJ was playing the piano (and, yes, it did look like Joshua Hoffman was tickling the keys himself), Brooke called. She asked to be put on speaker so she could share her news with them all. There was nothing but joy and relief when she told them that Eric was off the ventilator and breathing on his own with his vitals improving. Kudos to Delon de Metz (Zende) who has performed excellently throughout this storyline including today's episode. I truly felt the impact the news had on his character.
With Eric on his way out of the woods, the Forresters and Logans have much to look forward to as we head toward the new year. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote for more Bold and the Beautiful news and coverage! I'll see you in January 2024 for more recaps.
