Recently, I'd written that soap star Krista Allen's absence on The Bold and the Beautiful didn't necessarily forecast a coming departure but, alas, the red flags we all clocked were the warning signs we knew them to be. Deadline has confirmed that the actress' contract wasn't renewed for a third year and she'd received this news back in October. Her last appearance on the soap was on Nov. 8.

In an interview with the outlet, Allen explained the situation:

“The craziest thing is right before I got dropped, I did the cast photo shoot, and then the next week they called and said, ‘we’re not going to keep your third year and thank you very much, you were wonderful and thank you, goodbye. And I was like, what? I think the hardest thing for me has been trying to stay quiet. I haven’t known what to say. And then when I got dropped, I was like, ‘oh, okay, is the show going to announce this?’ But they never did. And then on December 10, just recently, it was Taylor’s two-year anniversary [of being back on show], and I came back to Twitter for the first time since June to engage with fans again, just to say thank you because there were so many congratulations and people saying, ‘I can’t wait to see you back on screen’ and ‘when are you coming back?'”

Unfortunately, this isn't a rare occurrence for the soap and has been a point of criticism for years. Darin Brooks, who played Wyatt Spencer from 2013 to this year, made his own announcement on Instagram that he wouldn't be returning to The Bold and the Beautiful. His character wasn't written out of the daytime program either he just stopped appearing when he should have been present for Liam's ongoing 'are they divorced or not' entanglement with Hope Logan.

Allen's absence was even more egregious because of the 'Eric is dying' storyline that's pulled the Forresters and Logans into an emotional plot that Taylor Hayes should have been present for. Not only does Taylor have her own history with the Forrester patriarch but she would be there to support her kids--Steffy and Thomas--and her ex-husband/best friend Ridge through this trying time.

There's been no explanation for Taylor's absence despite Allen being let go from the role prior to the story ramping up Eric's deteriorating health. We were at least told that three of his children--Kristin, Felicia, and Rick--were away on safari and would miss his farewell party that they didn't know was a farewell party. The characters have been silent about Taylor, it's not even known if she's aware Eric is sick and it's possible there may never be an update.

This wouldn't be the first time The Bold and the Beautiful dropped Taylor without notice or a word. Back when Hunter Tylo was in the role, she'd once departed after having a conversation with Eric and then just never returned. Not a soul on the show questioned it or explained what happened.

Reportedly, an insider shared that Allen was offered the opportunity to recur but declined. The information didn't come from a spokesperson for the soap because they do not comment on the status of the cast. However, the actress' rep refuted the insider's claim stating that she was offered the chance to say three lines in an episode in late November after not hearing anything for a couple of months.

It's unknown if the disputed opportunity would have wrapped up Taylor's time on the soap opera or brought her into Eric's storyline at all. What is clear is that Allen's days as the good doctor are over which is disappointing for fans like myself who've enjoyed her work on The Bold and the Beautiful and saw her addition to the cast as a much needed breath of fresh air.
