Krista Allen fans clamor for her Bold and the Beautiful return after Taylor Hayes recast
By Sabrina Reed
The time Krista Allen fans were dreading has finally come. Taylor Hayes has been recast on The Bold and the Beautiful. Rebecca Budig has stepped into the role. We haven't seen much of her interpretation of the beloved character, but we're sure the four time Daytime Emmy nominee will deliver. The chief concern, however, is whether or not viewers will feel the same magic we did when Allen took up the mantle.
Notably, there'd been push back when Allen joined. Longtime watchers of the soap had strong convictions about Hunter Tylo who originated the role and had played the character for nearly 20 years. But Allen won people over with her talent, her exceptional line delivery, her ability to imbue Taylor with both passion and vulnerability, and the spectacular chemistry she had with Thorsten Kaye. They were able to portray Tridge's friendship as well as their deep love and brought new shippers on board to a decades long ship.
Even when the storylines left us wary like Tridge's near walk down the aisle that ended in Taylor once again feeling cast aside by Ridge or the Braylor friendship that divided many a viewer, we were all deeply invested in Taylor's story. As such, Allen's departure stung, particularly when news broke that it wasn't her choice to leave. She said the following about her exit:
"The craziest thing is right before I got dropped, I did the cast photo shoot, and then the next week they called and said, ‘we’re not going to keep your third year and thank you very much, you were wonderful and thank you, goodbye. And I was like, what? I think the hardest thing for me has been trying to stay quiet. I haven’t known what to say. And then when I got dropped, I was like, ‘oh, okay, is the show going to announce this?’ But they never did. And then on December 10, just recently, it was Taylor’s two-year anniversary [of being back on show], and I came back to Twitter for the first time since June to engage with fans again, just to say thank you because there were so many congratulations and people saying, ‘I can’t wait to see you back on screen’ and ‘when are you coming back?'"
Throughout her run on The Bold and the Beautiful, Allen had been heavily engaged with fans on social media. So much so that her interactions formed a kind of online community around her that fans enjoyed together and with the actress. Because she's so beloved, it's no wonder there's been an uptick in calls for her return. Mind, this was already happening as Taylor's adult children--Steffy and Thomas--went through hardships with their mother nowhere to be seen and barely any word of her whereabouts. But, now that Budig has made her first appearance as the good doctor, those calls have increased.
All one needs to do is search Allen's name on X to see the plethora of fans who want her back in the role. There's been a mix of reactions, with some speaking to Budig's talent while still wishing Allen were Taylor and others insisting that Allen is the perfect actress for the character and no one can replace her. One fan even noted that they now know how Hunter Tylo fans felt when Allen stepped into the psychiatrist's shoes.
That's an important observation because we are only in the beginning days of Budig's portrayal of Taylor. We don't know what her dynamic is going to be with the other characters and whether or not it's going to be something that resonates with us and has us sitting up and paying attention. Actors come and go from soaps, some hold our hearts and will have performed the definitive iteration of a character while others will be serviceable or downright miscast.
What remains true, however, is that Krista Allen made a lasting mark on The Bold and the Beautiful and now it's Budig's turn to bring Dr. Taylor Hayes to life. You never know she may just be the spark this soap needs and has been missing without Taylor in the picture.
