We are still a couple of months out from the premiere of NCIS season 22 so there is not a lot we know yet. However, there is one mystery that may be a focus that we saw inklings of in the season 21 finale. This involves Alden Parker (Gary Cole) and the mysterious Lily.

If you’ll recall from the season 21 finale, Agents Parker and Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) became trapped on a ship that was due to be sunk and turned into an artificial reef. While they were trying to escape, Parker wound up trapped and injured, causing him to fade in out of consciousness as he bled out.

He appeared to be lost in a memory about a young girl he had played with on a ship, as the ghost of his mother encouraged him to stay awake. But once Parker was in the hospital, he told Knight that he didn’t know who Lily was.

At first, it did seem like he was unaware of her connection to him. But according to an interview with TVLine, Steven D. Binder teased that “there’s something in his past that even he’s not aware of that’s bubbling to the surface.”

Could it be that Parker was too young to remember Lily and how she is connected to him? It is possible he just doesn’t have those memories, but now that they have come back due to the hallucination, or flashback, we might learn more as season 22 airs.

It's possible that Lily is a sister he did not remember having. If something bad happened to her, the trauma could have kept him from remembering the events that transpired. His brain could have protected him from that trauma, especially if his family chose not to talk about her.

Since we have learned so much about these characters over the years, we're looking forward to finding out more about Parker, especially if we're learning alongside him. It could lead to some interesting character developments and show us how he has become the man he is today.

There is still plenty to look forward to when NCIS season 22 begins. One such loose end is if we will still see Agent Knight since she decided to move on from the team. Will she continue to be on the show and if so, who will take her desk for the time being?

NCIS has a late premiere, beginning on Monday, Oct. 14 at an earlier time at 8/7c. It will move back to its regular 9/8c timeslot on Oct. 21. While you wait for the premiere, you can also check out previous episodes on Paramount+. The DVD set for season 21 is also available from Paramount Home Entertainment. Check out our review, here.
