It seems Lopez vs Lopez has cheated death and defied the odds as the series has been renewed and will be coming back for a third season at NBC! The news broke late on May 7 as NBC announced the season 3 renewal of the series, just days removed from the season 2 finale.

The renewal came as a surprise to many as countless insiders had reported that the show was unlikely to be renewed for another season. Many expected that NBC would cancel Lopez vs Lopez, and hand out a renewal to Extended Family. Instead, it was Lopez vs Lopez that managed to get the renewal while Extended Family has been canceled after just one season.

Lopez vs Lopez will join returning comedy Night Court which was renewed for a third season as well as the new Reba McEntire comedy, Happy’s Place. We don’t yet know when the three comedies will be arriving or on what night NBC will slot the shows into its schedule or if any might be held for midseason, but we should be getting the NBC schedule soon as we near the NBC Upfront presentation.

Lopez vs Lopez season 3 isn’t being billed as the show’s last (but it could be)

With the renewal of Lopez vs Lopez, NBC is not billing season 3 as the show’s final season but there is a chance that it could very well be. And honestly, we sort of hope the writers approach the season as a potential end.

Lopez vs Lopez has been on the bubble for both its first two seasons and narrowly escaped cancellation. While there is a chance the show could pick up traction in its third season, it seems unlikely the ratings will rise significantly. So there is a good chance that the show could very well end with its third season, so it would be wise for the writers to plan accordingly just in case.

This would allow them to tell the stories they hope to tell and approach the season in a way that leaves the door open for a fourth season should NBC order one, but also give closure to the bigger storylines across the season. This could include the wedding of Mayan and Quinten which is a moment the fans and cast are hoping the show will be able to incorporate.
