The 2024-25 TV season promises to be quite an interesting season, one that is full of change both to the actual schedules of our favorite broadcast networks, but to their actual lineups as well.

This season saw many beloved veteran shows coming to an end, some with planned final seasons and many others with abrupt cancellations that left fans without any proper closure for the shows they’ve come to know and love. There are over a dozen shows that won’t be returning for the 2024-25 season because they’ve come to an end, but there are also a couple of dozen hit shows that will be coming back… just not in the fall.

With the announcement of their schedules for the new year, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and The CW have made some interesting scheduling decisions to say the least. While most of their biggest shows will be back beginning in the fall, there are many hits – including a handful of mainstays – that are being pushed back to midseason which means fans won’t be able to enjoy new episodes until January 2025 at the absolute earliest.

Which shows won’t be coming back in the fall? Let’s break it down network by network!

ABC shows not coming back in 2024

Of the broadcast networks, ABC is one of the networks with the most shows on deck for midseason; however, there aren’t too many surprises for the most part as many of the shows saved for 2025 are shows that typically drop on the network’s midseason schedule. There are however a trio of shows that we did not expect to land at midseason, those shows being returning dramas The Rookie and Will Trent as well as the final season of The Conners.

All three series are being pushed back to 2025 and won’t return in the fall which is disappointing and going to make the way even more excruciating for fans. Of the group, The Rookie’s move to midseason is the most surprising as the show has been a staple on the ABC fall schedule since its premiere back in 2018. Meanwhile, The Conners 6-episode sendoff season is going to close out in 2025 as well, making Abbott Elementary the only comedy to land on ABC’s fall schedule.

As for the other shows being held for 2025? Here’s a complete list of ABC’s midseason series which won’t return until next year:

  • American Idol
  • The Bachelor
  • Celebrity Jeopardy!
  • Celebrity Wheel of Fortune
  • The Conners
  • Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
  • The Rookie
  • What Would You Do?
  • Will Trent

CBS shows not coming back in 2024

When it comes to CBS’s midseason schedule, there really aren’t too many surprises in the mix – CBS sticking to routine, shocking, I know. Perhaps the biggest show being held for midseason is the new medical drama Watson which won’t arrive until 2025, falling to lock down a spot in the CBS fall schedule.

Fans waiting for the second season of NCIS: Sydney will also have to wait until 2025 as the show is being held for midseason with the plan being for it to premiere on Friday nights after Blue Bloods closes out its final season in the fall.

Just what other shows are being held for midseason at CBS? Here’s a complete look at their midseason shows:

  • The Amazing Race
  • Hollywood Squares
  • NCIS: Sydney
  • The Price Is Right at Night
  • Raid the Cage
  • Watson

FOX shows not coming back in 2024

FOX’s fall lineup is going to look the most different this year, this is due to the fact that the network is holding many of its returning shows for midseason including one hit series that has been a part of the FOX fall schedule for over 20 years.

We’re referring to Family Guy which is being held until 2025 and will not be returning in the fall, which marks the second year of major change for the show. First FOX moved it from its Sunday Animation Domination schedule and now it’s being bumped from the fall and held for midseason. FOX has assured fans the series remains a priority, but the choices it’s been making seem to suggest otherwise so we’ll have to wait to see what the future might hold.

Also being held for midseason are two hit dramas as both Alert and The Cleaning Lady will not return for their new seasons until 2025 with both shows failing to land a spot on the fall schedule.

As for the other shows being held for 2025? Here’s a complete list of FOX’s midseason series which won’t return until next year:

  • Alert: Missing Persons Unit
  • Animal Control
  • The Cleaning Lady
  • Crime Scene Kitchen
  • Doc
  • Extracted
  • Family Guy
  • Going Dutch
  • The Great North
  • LEGO Masters
  • MasterChef
  • Name That Tune
  • Next Level Chef

NBC shows not coming back in 2024

While ABC, CBS, and FOX all have made some bold moves with their schedule, NBC’s fall schedule is pretty consistent and that means there aren’t too many shows being held for midseason which are likely to surprise fans.

In fact, there is only one returning show being held for midseason and that’s Deal or No Deal Island. The rest of the network’s midseason slate is comprised of new series set to arrive sometime in 2025.

Here’s the full list of NBC shows being held for 2025:

  • The Americas
  • Deal or No Deal Island
  • Destination X
  • The Hunting Party
