Monkey Man has to be one of the most anticipated films of the first half of 2024, as it was directed by none other than Dev Patel, the Academy Award-nominee that has proven that he is a jack of all trades, master of all.

The 2024 movie is a tale of how a young man filled with revenge sets out to settle the score and hunt down the people who slayed his mother. However, he soon finds that his journey isn't as linear as he thought it would be since his courageous mission compelled many to look up to him as not just an inspiration but a leader, too.

The official synopsis:

"Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon embodying strength and courage, Monkey Man stars Dev Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash.

After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him."

If you like what you see, you can head over to your local theater to catch the film as it released Friday, Apr. 5. But if you want to enjoy the movie in the comfort of your own home once it leaves theaters, you may be in luck come the summer. Here's why!

Where to stream Monkey Man

Universal Pictures is the company behind Monkey Man, which means barring any changes, Peacock will be one of two places the film will stream after its theatrical release since other movies made by the studio (i.e. Oppenheimer, She Said, and Bros) are currently available to stream on the platform.

According to IGN, Universal films can debut on Peacock as soon as 45 days after their theatrical release. That means, at the earliest, you could stream the movie as soon as mid-May. However, it's possible it could release later. For example, Night Swim hit theaters on Jan. 5 but it didn't drop on the streamer until Apr. 5, three months later.

Oppenheimer took even longer. The film came out on July 21, 2023 but it didn't make its way to Peacock until Feb. 16, 2024, nearly seven months later. We doubt it'll take that long for Monkey Man be available to stream but, if there is a delay, we could be looking at a late summer or early fall release on the platform. We'll keep you posted!

After the movie comes to Peacock, you can expect its next streaming home to be Prime Video. Per IGN, "[Universal] live-action movies debut on Peacock for four months before moving to Prime Video for 10 months, then back to Peacock for four more."

The streaming service has plenty of titles from Universal Pictures currently--Nobody, Old, and M3GAN, to name a few--so while you wait for Monkey Man's streaming debut you can enjoy a range of the studio's movies.
