It looks like Percy, Grover, and Annabeth have hopped out of the frying pan and into the fire in Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 4, "I Plunge to My Death," which premieres Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.

Last episode, "We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium," found our heroes facing off against Medusa. At first the gorgon seemed like she could be their ally but when Percy and Annabeth didn't rise to her rigid standards she went on the attack. Fortunately, thanks to a well timed spill by Grover and Annabeth's direction for Percy to swing his sword, resulting in Medusa being decapitated, the trio were able to defeat her and Alecto, the fury.

With Medusa's head mailed to Olympus, the kids have continued on in their journey but as the preview has made clear something is off with Percy. Grover and Annabeth are splashing water on him from a fountain in one of the scenes. We know that for Percy water has healing properties as shown in episode 2, "I Become Lord of the Bathroom." But now is the wrong time to be developing some kind of demigod specific ailment or weakness as Echidna, played by Suzanne Cryer (Silicon Valley), is now hunting them.

Our heroes encounter the dracaena--otherwise known as a female serpent or dragon in Greek mythology--while on the train. She has with her the Chimera which she's potentially keeping in a travel bag of some kind or perhaps even a dog carrier funnily enough.

At one point during their attempt to escape Echidna, Percy pushes Annabeth over to Grover and closes the door. He's determined to face the Chimera alone and protect his friends even if he's not in tip top shape. As Percy waits for the beast to approach there's a voiceover in the preview of him stating that Poseidon has never helped him before so why would he start now? I hope this is foreshadowing the sea god doing something of note or worth for his son because he is not winning any parent awards at the moment.
