High Potential, ABC's latest procedural introduces us to Morgan Guillory, a cleaner for the LAPD with a genius IQ who makes a break in one of their cases. Her decision to update their murder board, brought on by her compulsion to fix things that are wrong, opens the door for her to become a consultant for the department by the end of the investigation.

It's a position that Morgan doesn't accept at first until she decides it can benefit her and her family. Not only will she have a better paying job but it's possible that she'll be able to solve a mystery that's been plaguing her for the past 15 years--the disappearance of Ramon Sinquerra. We'd gotten bits during the pilot's case about how it connected to her life.

Morgan commiserated with Letty, the daughter of the deceased victim and the missing Lynette Acosta, over having lost someone who'd vanished without a trace. She'd experienced that with Ramon, Ava's father, who Morgan swears didn't just up and leave them one night when he was supposed to be getting diapers. No one believes her, not even her daughter, but she's determined to uncover the truth.

Her quest is particularly important because of what it would mean for Ava to have answers. The teen had shared with her mother that she felt like the odd person out. Her brother Elliot is a genius like Morgan, her baby sister is an infant so they don't know if she'll have the same advanced cognitive abilities but she and Elliot at least share the same father. Ava's also the only person of color in their family. In every way she feels set apart.

Of course, Morgan doesn't want her daughter to feel displaced, isolated, and like she's on her own. Solving the mystery of what happened to Ramon may not fix how Ava's feeling if he is dead but it would help bring some closure. Perhaps an understanding that her mom was right, that she was wanted by her dad and it was something or someone that took him from them and not him choosing to leave. However, do expect some twists.

In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Todd Harthan teased what's coming regarding Ramon:

"Morgan is about to find out some things she didn’t know about the person she was sharing her life with, the person she had a child with. Morgan is somebody who notices everything, all the details, but we all have blind spots, right? As the season goes on, we’ll start to unpack some things about who this man was and what he might have been doing that she wasn’t aware of."

While this does sound ominous, it'll be an interesting character study for Morgan as well. She told Lt. Soto that her abilities aren't a "gift." They've made it difficult for her to hold conversations, keep a job, and maintain relationships. So how did Ramon manage to slip secrets past her? Did she ignore red flags or signs? Or was he, too, "gifted" in some way? The mystery that is Ramon Sinquerra will be fun to unravel over the course of the season.
