Family Guy has been a staple on FOX since 1999. Yes, that does mean the beloved animated comedy is 25 years old and one of the last hits of the 20th century. With the show getting up there in age, there are viewers who've wondered if it's time for it to take a final bow and close out its chapter on the network. I mean, I'm old enough to remember its crossover with Bones!

The unhinged marrying of the procedural, starring Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz, with Seth MacFarlane's quick wit and sarcasm as infant Stewie Griffin, was all anyone could talk about. Everyone wanted to know just how this would make sense and then Booth was diagnosed with a brain tumor which explained his hallucinations. That was 15 years ago with the episode "Critic in the Cabernet." Boreanaz has since moved onto another hit television series in SEAL Team, which is scheduled to end its run with its seventh and final season.

Whether you watched Family Guy, or someone you know fell heart and laugh first into loving the series, it's been a part of the pop culture conversation for some time. Will that remain the case? Considering MacFarlane's words on the matter, fans won't have to worry about the show's end coming anytime soon. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the multi-hyphenated talent and series creator said the following (per Deadline):

"At this point, I don’t see a good reason to stop. People still love it. It makes people happy and it funds some good causes. It’s a lot of extraneous cash that you can donate to Rainforest Trust and you can still go out to dinner that night. There was a time when I thought, it’s time to wrap it up. At this point, we’ve reached escape velocity. I don’t know that there’s any reason to stop at this point unless people get sick of it. Unless the numbers show that people just are, ‘Eh, we don’t care about Family Guy anymore.’ But that hasn’t happened yet."

Add his statement to FOX's renewal of the show for a season 23 back in 2023 and Family Guy's audience can anticipate seeing new episodes of the series at least until 2025. If the program's viewership remains steady then it'll be in good shape to continue on in the network's animation block. While its numbers have dipped in recent weeks, it is making a recovery. That slip was likely due to the comedy moving from Sundays to Wednesdays starting March 6 when season 22 returned from hiatus.
