Showrunner confirms Star Trek: Picard star's return for Chicago Med season 10
Chicago Med is getting set for season 10 and it looks like one recurring character is coming back for it! Here’s what we know!
Fans of Chicago Med are used to characters coming and going over the course of the series. That was proven by word that Dominic Rains would be leaving the show as Dr. Crockett Marcel. It also appears that Luke Mitchell will now be a regular as Mitch Ripley.
The show is building for season 10 with some new cast members announced. Darren Barnet will play Dr. John Frost, a pediatric resident and Sarah Ramos comes on board as Dr. Caitlin Lenox.
Season 9 did have a couple of characters coming and going. Sophia Ali was prominently featured as Zola Ahmad, a new intern for Marcel and it looked like she might become a regular. However, Zola made a lot of mistakes as her beef with insurance companies led her to break the rules helping patients. When she was discovered injecting blood into a patient to qualify him for a treatment, Marcel had to report her. That was the last we saw of Zola as Marcel later learned she’d been fired off-camera.
Also popping into season 10 was Naomi Howard, a medical student aiding Archer (Steven Weber). At first, she was way too nervous to the point Archer kicked her out. However, he later came to see Naomi had some promise and just needed a bit of mentoring.
The character popped up in another two episodes, played by Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut, who had just come off her role as Sydney LaForge in Star Trek: Picard. If you were wondering if the actress would be back in the coming season, we now have an answer!
Naomi Howard is returning for Chicago Med season 10
Speaking to TVLine, Chicago Med showrunner Allen MacDonald confirmed Naomi would be back for season 10. He didn’t specify how many episodes she would be in or if the role would remain recurring or now she'd be a series regular character.
Naomi did make a decent debut on the show even if she had limited screen time. The series hasn’t done much with medical students in a while and Naomi can be a good “entry level” character learning the ropes with Archer and others. Chestnut is a good actress and can make the most of her screen time.
The question is how much screen time that will be as the show has two new characters amid the usual drama. As a student, Naomi wouldn’t be taking part in major surgeries as she'd more so be following other doctors around. Yet having her around makes sense as there’s more staff to be used in a busy hospital. There’s potential in Naomi becoming more popular and a regular character to make the role more notable.
It’s another nice addition to Chicago Med to keep this hit show rolling along.
Chicago Med season 10 premieres Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 8/7c on NBC.
