St. Denis Medical, a new NBC comedy, is coming this fall (Everything to know!)
By Sabrina Reed
A new workplace comedy is coming to broadcast--St. Denis Medical! Get ready for shenanigans and hijinks in the worst place for those two words to be used. The series, which makes its debut this fall, takes place in an understaffed and underfunded Oregon hospital. The medical professionals at the facility do their best to meet their patients' needs but it's not easy providing care on a shoestring budget.
If you love a good medical drama but would like more laughs than tears while watching doctors do what they do best then this is a show you won't want to miss out on. Here's what you need to know about the series ahead of its premiere!
St. Denis Medical release window
An official release date has yet to be announced for the medical comedy but we can anticipate St. Denis Medical slotting into NBC's schedule on Tuesdays. It'll air at 8 p.m. ET, leading a block that consists of Night Court, The Voice, and The Irrational. The shows pairing with the established courtroom comedy means we're guaranteed an hour of fun before the network turns up the heat with its beloved singing competition and then more case work with Alec Mercer.
Next day streaming will be available on Peacock.
Episode count
Be prepared for St. Denis Medical to be sticking around for awhile on NBC's 2024-2025 roster as the network has ordered five more episodes for the comedy's first season. This has brought its episode count up to 18. Considering the series was supposed to premiere last TV season, it seems the network intends on making sure the comedy has a good foothold and time to capture its audience since it was delayed by the 2023 Hollywood strikes.
Cast
The series boasts Wendi McLendon-Covey as its lead. She's coming off of a 10 season run on The Goldbergs which delighted fans during its time on ABC. Also, comedy great David Alan Grier is sure to leave us in stitches with his performance. The cast of characters on St. Denis Medical just might end up being one of our favorites if the show hooks us like we hope it will.
Character descriptions (via Deadline, Variety):
Wendi McLendon-Covey as Joyce, the hospital’s Executive Director. Once an oncological surgeon herself, she knows what it takes to provide patients with the care they deserve. The dreams she has for St. Denis Medical are big but it’s been a struggle to bring them to life.
David Alan Grier as Ron, the Emergency Department doctor who has become disillusioned and defeated after his divorce.
Allison Tolman as Alex, the supervising nurse in the Emergency Department who always puts patients first even at the detriment of her own personal life. She has high standards and is dedicated to making sure her patients receive excellent care.
Josh Lawson as Bruce, a trauma surgeon who spends most of his time in the Emergency Department. He’s talented and knows it which wouldn’t be a problem if he weren’t so determined to make sure everyone else knows it as well.
Kahyun Kim as Serena, a nurse in the Emergency Department who also happens to be Alex’s work wife. She’s a big believer in homeopathy.
Mekki Leeper as Matt, a nurse in the Emergency Department who means well but his first day on the job isn’t going so well.
Kaliko Kauahi as Val, a veteran nurse
Stephen Schneider as Steve, the hospital Chaplain
