Station 19 is about to begin its final season, but just how many episodes are in it, and is it what the showrunners had planned/ Find out here!

Imagine getting a new job as showrunner of a hit network show and then almost immediately told the show is getting canceled. That's what happened to Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige when they were appointed the new showrunners of Station 19 in April of 2023. They had hoped to get started early only for the WGA and then SAG strikes to delay the season.

When the strikes finally ended in November, the pair went to work only to be blindsided like everyone else when ABC announced that Season 7 would be the last for the show.

Speaking to TV Line, Paige and Clack confirmed that thanks to the late start, there will be only 10 episodes for Season 7. This was already going to be a challenge in cutting down the planned storylines from a regular 20-episode season to 10, but now the bigger issue is how to work them into a series finale.

"The first part of the season stayed pretty much as we had conceived it pre-‘the news,'" Paige explained. "And with the back half, we said, 'Now we're landing the plane. How do we want to do that?'"

The pair broke the news to the cast and then asked for any input, with Paige happy to use their ideas.

"Ninety-five percent of [what they suggested] was things we'd already been thinking about. But there were a few delicious little nuggets in there that we were like, 'Oh, yeah, I hadn't thought about that that way!'"

Obviously, there's a huge challenge in taking an already shortened season and having to wrap up the storylines for so many characters in a way that leaves fans happy. Clack thinks there is a bonus in this means the season won't have any "filler" but pure action and drama for fans.

"Having to compress some of the stories actually made the season more vibrant and more action-packed.We just get to the point. There's no lollygagging around. We have 10 episodes, and we have to bring these stories to a satisfying conclusion. So it really upped the stakes for each episode."

From the cliffhanger of Jack close to death to the fallout of the Fireman's Gala disaster to Andy becoming the new boss, there's plenty of amazing stuff for fans of the series. That's without the usual romance and personal issues that bring the fans in.

So, while Station 19 is only 10 episodes, fans can be assured it's going to be a wild last ride to wrap up this series in a fantastic fashion.

Station 19 season 7 premieres Thursday, March 14, at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
