March Madness is here and with that, it also means we’re on a short break from some of our favorite shows. It feels weird to be on a break after a majority of television just came back, but it’s happening especially on CBS. SWAT will not have a new episode on Friday, March 22. So when can we expect new episodes to air?

Unfortunately, we will not get brand-new episodes of SWAT until April. So this means that we will have to sit on that major cliffhanger we saw in the March 15 episode that aired. That episode kicked off what will be the exit storyline for Dominique Luca, who Kenny Johnson plays.

It was already announced that both Alex Russell, who played Jim Street, and Johnson would be in reduced roles for the final season of SWAT. We saw Street leave Squad 20 to work with the crew based in Long Beach in the episode before Luca’s return.

Luca returned to the crew after working in London. But by the end of the episode, his life was in danger, and based on the promo for the next episode, it looked grim.

The last episode to air, “Escape,” focused on the team looking for three missing fugitives. It was Luca’s first day back after spending time with Kelly, who is visiting from San Diego. They had some difficulties when he tried teaching her how to drive but lost his temper. By the end of the episode, they had made up and were planning on going to get some food.

Before they could, they came across a robbery in progress and Luca was shot trying to stop them. He was shot multiple times and from the looks of it, whether he makes it or not will be the question.

What's next on SWAT?

"Last Call" will air on Friday, April 5 at 8 p.m. ET.

The official synopsis: "After the shocking shooting of a member of 20-Squad, Hondo and the team launch a citywide manhunt for the robbery crew responsible. Meanwhile, Deacon’s plans for his future hit a snag, and Powell and Alfaro clash over a tricky issue."

In the promo, the doctor is heard telling the rest of the team that one of the bullets hit Luca’s heart. Then there was a shot of what looked like a ceremony. While there is no confirmation on if Luca will live or die, Johnson called his final episode “bittersweet” in an Instagram post.

Talking to TVLine, SWAT showrunner Andrew Dettman wanted the episodes focusing on the character exits to showcase “the evolution of their storylines.”

It would be a tough pill to swallow to say goodbye to a member of the team, especially at the end of the series. But until we know for sure, we can only hope that it will turn out alright in the end. Who knows, maybe Luca decides to take time off from SWAT and is alive and well.

In addition to Luca’s exit storyline, we also will see Deacon (Jay Harrington) take a step back from SWAT to be more present for his family. If, indeed, there is a loss on the team, it might solidify this decision. There will be a lot of changes for the characters on the show, and we’re looking forward to seeing how everything plays out once the show returns from hiatus.

While we wait for the new episodes to return, you can watch previous seasons on Paramount+. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote for more updates on the SWAT schedule for the final season.
