Did Teddy live or die in the Grey's Anatomy Season 20 premiere?
Teddy Altman taught us to always treat dental pain seriously. As we opened the Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 premiere, we picked up with where things were with her after collapsing in the OR. What happened?
Caution: This post contains spoilers for the Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 premiere.
We picked up with a couple of major storylines. At least one intern’s job is on the line, while Winston needed to save Teddy. We learned Teddy needed emergency surgery on her heart due to a bacterial infection that likely came from a dental infection.
Teddy was still out post-surgery, with Winston quickly taking control of the situation. He wasn’t happy that Schmidt hadn’t ordered more labs, making it clear that he is looking at doing more than the standard of care.
Did Teddy survive in the Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 premiere?
Owen spent the day in the hospital trying to hold it all together. Winston even did the right thing in kicking him out of Teddy’s room so that he could treat Teddy. The problem with Owen is that he would try to take over the situation. Amelia stood by him throughout the episode to help him keep a clear head when needed.
Winston immediately spotted a major issue. Teddy’s legs were pale and cold with no pulse. He needed to act fast to avoid the loss of Teddy’s leg.
The surgery was a success, albeit difficult. It wasn’t until the last minute that we would find out if she would be 100% okay. It certainly seems it as Teddy woke up from surgery and was immediately able to talk. Now to hope there was no damage that will show up in later episodes.
Which of the potential deaths turned into a real one?
We knew that someone from the Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 finale would likely die. There were too many lives on the line.
Yes, it was Sam in the end. With Teddy collapsing and everyone turning their attention to her, Sam bled out on the table. It was heartbreaking for his mother, especially considering how much Sam had been through with the Air Force.
It was certainly an episode full of action and one that felt a lot like the early days of Grey’s Anatomy. Here’s an fun-packed Season 20!
Grey’s Anatomy airs on Thursdays at 9/8c on ABC. Catch up the following day on Hulu.
