Happy New Year, everyone! I look forward to accidentally writing and typing 2023 for the next six months. Like we do every week, we’re sharing all the best Netflix movies and shows debuting beginning the week of Jan. 1, 2024.

2024 is promising for the massive streaming giant with movies from Kevin Hart along with Zack Snyder's part 2 of Rebel Moon, while hit series will return like Bridgerton, The Night Agent, and The Diplomat. Of course, we have the return of the hit reality TV series Love is Blind, Too Hot Too Handle, and Perfect Match.

Jan. 4, 2024:

The Brother's Sun: "When the head of a powerful Taiwanese triad is shot by a mysterious assassin, his eldest son, legendary killer Charles “Chairleg” Sun (Justin Chien) heads to Los Angeles to protect his mother, Eileen (Michelle Yeoh), and his naive younger brother, Bruce (Sam Song Li) — who’s been completely sheltered from the truth of his family until now. But as Taipei’s deadliest societies and a new rising faction go head-to-head for dominance — Charles, Bruce and their mother must heal the wounds caused by their separation and figure out what brotherhood and family truly mean before one of their countless enemies kills them all."

Society of the Snow: "In 1972, the Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, chartered to fly a rugby team to Chile, catastrophically crashes on a glacier in the heart of the Andes. Only 29 of the 45 passengers survived the crash and finding themselves in one of the world’s toughest environments, they are forced to resort to extreme measures to stay alive."

As for our biggest recommendations to begin 2024 with...

One of the first exciting series to start the new year on Netflix stars Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh with The Brothers Sun. The series follows the head of a Taiwanese triad who was shot by an assassin. Charles Sun, his oldest son, heads to LA to protect his mother and brother, who have no clue about the truth about their family until the shooting. Starring alongside Yeoh are Justin Chien, Sam Song Li, and Johnny Kou.

In contention for Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards, Society of the Snow is set to debut on Netflix after a small theatrical release. The film is about the Uruguayan 1972 Andes flight that crashed. Director J.A. Bayona adapted Pablo Vierci's book of the same name, which accounts for all 16 survivors of the crash. Bayona cast only Uruguayan and Argentine actors (primarily newcomers) for the film. While the film is not easy to watch, Society of the Snow is one of the most powerful and great films you will see this year.
