The Conners will be back for a final season, but the wait is going to be a long one

Season seven of ABC's smash hit The Conners will be its last and will come with a shortened season. The news came as no surprise as there had been discussions between the producers and ABC regarding The Conners' fate. The strikes and whether season six would be the show's final chapter were part of the cancellation.

With that said, the season six finale was designed to be a series finale in the event that the sitcom wasn't picked up for another season. However, that wasn't the case, but it'll be an interesting twist to see how the episode will link to the season seven premiere. According to the official season six finale, which airs on May 22nd and is titled "Less Money, More Problems," the Conners obviously face financial crunches, leading us to think that a dark resolution will only take the family out of the mess.

It's disappointing to viewers and fans who have been part of The Conners' familial journey since Day One and became invested in the hilarious yet realistic storylines centered around Dan Conner (John Goodman) and his family's lives. Furthermore, having season seven consist of just six episodes instead of the usual twenty to twenty-two was another jolt.

But now, with ABC dropping the 2024-2025 lineup schedule on May 14, fans are in for yet another blow. The Conners are nowhere on the fall lineup, which they've been a part of since its initiation in 2018. For those waiting to witness their continuing stories and struggles, it'll be a while before we see them again and are invited back to their home.

The Conners season 7 is not coming until 2025

The Conners didn't make the ABC 2024 fall lineup, as Abbott Elementary will take its 9:30 PM EST timeslot, which was recently pushed forward from the usual 9:00 PM. The Golden Bachelorette, the latest installment from The Bachelor franchise, will follow Abbott Elementary at 9:30 PM.

The Conners will return during the 2025 midseason lineup, along with the police drama Will Trent and American Idol. While it's not officially confirmed what premiere date The Conners will drop on, it's assumed it'll continue its Wednesday night tradition, but that could very well change.

The good news is that despite only having six episodes, the show will air back-to-back with no repeats. If we were to guess that season seven will drop in mid-January, then its finale could air in early March. It'll surely be a sad event, but one with a hopeful and satisfying conclusion that will carry The Conners' decade-long legacy.
