The Fire Country season 2 finale will be upon us quicker than we're ready. We're a little under a month out from the May 17 episode showrunner Tia Napolitano says will "bookend" the premiere, "Something's Coming."

Season 2 started with everyone navigating different dynamics, relationships, and places. Through the course of the season they've begun to settle, explore where they are in their lives now, or adjust to new circumstances that have changed the direction they thought they'd be taking. Napolitano expanded on this point for TVLine.

"We started this season with everyone in a different place, and what I really wanted was for the finale to feel like a satisfying bookend to that very unusual, noisy launch where you felt like, ‘OK, people have traveled emotionally. Relationships have changed. Things have come full circle.’ Things that were stated and done and choices that were made in the premiere… there are bookends to them, in a way that makes the season feel like one story that is of a piece and that propels us into next season. And yes, in addition to all those flowery words, there will be “twists and turns." Always.”"

The finale will be episode 10 of the season, and we know that the events leading up to it will play heavily into what happens. Episodes 7-8 will focus on the fight to save Three Rock. The camp has been taking heat since Sleeper started selling drugs from the place and Bode took the fall for it. The fallout from those events led to Manny's demotion and subsequent placement at Station 42 as well as Eve's promotion to Captain of Three Rock.

Episode 6, "Alert the Sheriff," added fuel to the fire due to inmate firefighter Rudy Varda making a break for it, triggering a manhunt. He'd also been suspected of killing the sheriff and seriously wounding a lieutenant. Though he was cleared of wrongdoing, the citizens of Edgewater were rattled enough to start demanding that Three Rock be closed.

A Hail Mary
“A Hail Mary” – The future of Three Rock is in jeopardy as public opinion of the camp grows increasingly negative, on FIRE COUNTRY, Friday, April 26 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. We're going to be locked into this arc which will also likely open the door for some kind of development with Gabriela and Bode. The former is still engaged to Diego, however, she's been more receptive to continuing some kind of relationship with her ex-boyfriend since he told her that he loves her and she learned the "girl in his life" was actually Genevieve, the preteen he hoped was his daughter, and not a prospective partner.

She told him directly that she loves him and that they will always be family. Sure, that sounds platonic and familial on her end, but Gabriela doesn't look at Bode like they're the best of friends sans romance. With her mother, Roberta, making an appearance in episode 8, "It's Not Over," we can expect for the topic of Gabi's romantic future to come to a head.

Episode 9, "No Future, No Consequences," will see Station 42 and Three Rock paired together for a campaign fire. They're set to struggle while making difficult decision. Given the stills that have been released, this could mean Gabriela is weighing whether she really will go through with marrying Diego. According to the logline for the finale, "I Do," she does prepare to walk down the aisle, but will she actually tie the knot? That's the big question.

Without giving away what's supposed to happen, Max Thieriot--in an interview with TVInsider--did tease what we can expect from the episode.

"Episode 10, I think, will be really exciting and fulfilling. But I think it’s also an episode that is pretty heart-wrenching and there’s a little bit of devastation as well. It really is kind of filled with everything. But I think last year, where people were pissed in a weird way, this one won’t have that piece, but it will have people feeling fulfilled, excited, but also devastated at other things. I think those are probably the emotions that people are going to go through."

It's hard to say what's going to be "heart-wrenching" or devastating. Are we in for another death? Is someone going to be badly hurt? Bode is supposed to receive surprising news. Does it have to do with Genevieve? If the finale is supposed to bookend the premiere it feels like it must. There are so many possibilities as we speed toward May 17, but what we can bet on is "I Do" will be an episode that has us talking.
