The CW has acquired Ride. Could this mean a path forward to a season 2 is opening?

Fellow Ride fans this could be our moment! Yes, Hallmark canceled the western family drama but perhaps The CW will save it. The network has acquired the series. Season 1 will make its broadcast debut on Monday, Jan. 22, 2024 at 8 p.m. ET. Deadline reports that there are no plans for a season 2 to be ordered but the outlet did mention "at least for now."

Here's the thing. The CW's tentpoles--All American, All American: Homecoming, Superman & Lois, and Walker--aren't expected to make their landing until April. The superhero drama of the lot will make its final season premiere even later. As such, the network is going to be relying on acquired content to get through much of the midseason. This gives Ride the opportunity not only to find a new audience but for those of us who've loved the show since its March 2023 premiere to make noise for a second season on broadcast.

Ride is exactly the kind of programming that's finding viewership on the network. Sullivan's Crossing was a breakout success compared to the other acquisitions. Its audience would definitely be hooked by the McMurray's story which is about a family coming together after a tragedy to support one another and fight to keep their ranch. It's different enough to standout in the network's line-up and, honestly, fans of Walker would like it, too. The rodeo element of series is also unique and will introduce viewers unfamiliar with the skill, athleticism, dare, and pageantry shown in the sport to a whole new world to fall in love with.

Here's hoping Ride's addition to The CW's roster will be a boon for us in the form of a green light for a season 2 in the near future. The series has been paired with encore episodes of the upcoming series Wild Cards taking the 9 o'clock slot on Monday, Jan. 22. Yes, that does mean two Riverdale stars are taking over Mondays on the network. Tiera Skovbye played Polly Cooper in the iconic drama and Vanessa Morgan (Toni Topaz) leads Wild Cards along with Giacomo Gianniotti.
