The Rookie may be recruiting a new member to the LAPD team in the upcoming season 7. As much as we love Officer John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) as our rookie, he's been with the force for a few years and has since been promoted to the role of training officer. The move creates a new opportunity to enlist a potential rookie to learn the tricks of the law enforcement trade.

An LAPD rookie has an approximate time period of two to three years. Before taking on significant cases, rookies must earn their department's respect and learn the job's responsibility. It's a commitment, as there are several dangers and risks entwined, but keeping the community safe outweighs them. It's also emotionally challenging, as police officers often find themselves handling precarious situations.

In Officer Nolan's day on the job, he faces these challenges head-on and has earned unwavering support and the confidence of his fellow officers. However, outside of work, Nolan additionally juggles the personal scope of his life, including being newly married and expanding his family, as revealed in the season 6 finale.

The finale further gave us a few intriguing cliffhangers that brought in the cast of the canceled spin-off, Rookie: Feds, which crafted a mini-crossover. Despite having the FBI partnering up with the LAPD, the capture mission of Monica Stevens (Bridget Regan) was a failure. However, there are only so many places in the world where a criminal can hide until they're caught or succumb to the elements.

While season 7 won't premiere until 2025 during ABC's midseason schedule, there have been teases regarding it. For instance, filming is set to take place this month in Los Angeles, and on June 10 we've received some casting news where new talent could be the next rookie.

Nolan has been training rookie Officer Celina Juarez (Lisseth Chavez) since season 5, and now that she is no longer a new member of the team, it's time for recruitment, training, and finding the right cast member for the role.

In a question submitted to TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich, a fan asked what the "scoop" was on The Rookie season 7. Mitovich revealed that a new rookie could be among the LAPD ranks, as confirmed by the showrunner, Alexi Hawley.

"We’re looking at the end of Celina [Juarez’s] 13 months, so to speak, at some point in the [upcoming seventh] season. So, I think it’s fair to say that there might be a new rookie or two showing up at some point."

With Hawley's confirmation, the door is wide open for anyone desiring to become a cop to join the team, where the work is nonstop but rewarding with the LAPD. If I had my say in it, a good plot twist would be recruiting one of the nonviolent criminals from past seasons into the academy and reshaping their lives on the right path.

Whoever the new rookie will be, they're about to see the world in a way they haven't before, since the police life can be unpredictable, dealing with various people, and witnessing life and death daily. And if under the training of John Nolan, the rookies will be solving crimes in no time.

Seasons 1-6 of The Rookie can be streamed on Hulu.
