When we first met Tom on The Bold and the Beautiful, I don't think any of us expected to see him beyond the 'Sheila's alive!' storyline and yet he's now become a fixture on the soap in surprising ways. First as the wedding officiant for Sheila and Deacon's nuptials and then as a waiter/delivery man at Il Giardino where it was revealed he knows Poppy Nozawa of all people. It seems the writers are ready to fill in her backstory and that's going to involve a plot where she and Tom have history.

Based on the way she reacted when they came face-to-face at the restaurant, we all knew they had some kind of connection. But, as the soap began filling in the blanks, it became obvious that they knew each other way back in the day. June 28's episode put most of the pieces together. Tom and Poppy used to be involved. I figured that was pretty much the case when it started to be seeded in that he's musically inclined.

Apparently, Tom was a bit of a local rock sensation. He'd gotten radio play, was on the touring circuit, and described himself as being a ladies man. As we know, Poppy is artistic and frequents music festivals. She loves going to see music played live and that must be how she and Tom met and spent time together since he claims Luna is his daughter.

Now, personally, I would have been more rocked by that statement if we hadn't see Li administer the paternity test declaring Bill is Luna's father. But, the story revelation does put into context Poppy's fear. She'd always been determined to keep it just her and Luna. She insisted that her daughter didn't need to know who her father is because they had each other.

But Tom said it himself, he was a transient musician and then later developed an addiction which wrecked his career and resulted in him winding up on the street. Presumably, this is the reason Poppy didn't want to know who Luna's father is. While Bill was a possibility, it wasn't guaranteed that they conceived a child together. It could have very well been Tom and accepting the reality of sharing a daughter with him that didn't sit well with Poppy.

I'd be surprised if The Bold and the Beautiful walked back Luna being Bill's. Sure, the writers could spin a tale where the hospital's paternity tests are faulty and produce false positives which is something they've only just now caught. However, that seems very unnecessary and, admittedly, I'd love for Luna to remain Bill's; their relationship is sweet.

Still, Tom's connection to Poppy does complicate things for her. She's been so happy in her relationship with Bill and enjoying the bond they're all cultivating as a family. This blast from the past may not ruin things but it could cause problems especially if Tom is insistent on being in her and Luna's lives since they're all in the area together. I'm intrigued to see where this storyline goes.
