Victor's forced decision leads to Jordan's exit on Young and the Restless
By Sean OBrien
Victor values loyalty on The Young and the Restless. He did not anticipate Cole and Michael betraying his trust, which forced him to release Jordan from her dungeon prison.
Daytime veteran Colleen Zenk's extended stay on broadcast television's reigning daytime steamer has been terrific. Whether decision-makers intended Jordan to darken Genoa City, Wisconsin's landscape through spring is an open-ended question.
Grudgingly agreeing to Cole and Michael's argument that the Newman family will be protected led to Jordan's hoped-for exit from the adapted wine cellar. The cover story involves Victor's men finding her near where she supposedly fell into a body of water.
Jordan Howard planned chaos for decades
Jordan suddenly appeared just prior to Thanksgiving, becoming Claire's great aunt, the sister of the late Eve Howard. That character tormented Victor and Nikki all those soapy decades ago.
Cole's mother, Eve, died years ago. That provided an opening for the writers to invent her deranged sister, Jordan, who kidnapped Claire at birth.
Claire's parents, Victoria and Cole, believed their daughter died. So, they grieved Eve and naturally thought they would never see her on this earth again. But as soapy fate would have it, she never died.
After playing a younger version of Abby, Hayley Erin's character, her second on Young and the Restless, was raised by Jordan. She was brainwashed into believing her parents abandoned her and that they and the Newman family had to die.
Victor Newman's feelings were understandable
As old-school fans recall, Eve became obsessed with Victor. Jordan, whom Cole said his mother was never close with, decided that Victor and Nikki were responsible for Eve's early death and dedicated herself to revenge.
Claire became the innocent victim in Jordan's twisted game. That and what transpired at the cabin months ago led Victor to rightfully hold Zenk's character responsible for his family's horror, which included Nikki's forced break from sobriety.
Jordan Howard's endgame likely nearing
This storyline has been compelling for many reasons, making it one of the better ones in recent memory.
The creative mining of ancient history was excellent and allowed a new, or returned, major character to emerge. Zenk's return to daytime ranks with the best of any revived soap veteran in a long time. Her performances are worthy of a Daytime Emmy without a reasonable doubt.
Also, Braeden is arguably delivering some of his passionately energetic efforts in a while. Dedicated viewers know he has been dealing with a cancer diagnosis and appears to have that issue thankfully addressed. This actor's vibrancy is a master class in why this genre is so beloved.
Who better than Victor to practice creative morality with Jordan, who one-upped him and his family on multiple occasions?
Now, with three people in the know and others soon to learn of Jordan's so-called capture, the climax to this great arc feels near. With all that has transpired, a fitting endgame is undoubtedly ahead. But even if Jordan makes it to prison successfully, she can always reappear at some sporadic future plot point or points because that is the essence of great soap.
