The Way Home season 2 started with a bang, literally as Kat was shot in the closing moments of the premiere. Episode 2, "Hanging by a Moment," picked up immediately where we left off with Kat being carried through the woods in 1814 as Alice freaked out 186 years later in 2000 because they'd been separated by the pond.

"Hanging by a Moment" provides more than one revelation that will factor heavily into the coming episodes as the mother-daughter duo aren't done with the past but their journeys will diverge. Come dive into the biggest moments from episode 2 with me as the storylines for this season become clearer.

Who shot Kat?

The Way Home hasn't revealed much about Thomas Coyle (Kris Holden-Ried) yet, but we do know he's the one who pulled the trigger and shot Kat. He took her to the Point General Store to be cared for by Susannah Augustine (Watson Rose), Elliott's ancestor.

Disoriented and feverish, Kat tried to run away from the store twice. The latter time brought her face to face with Cyrus Goodwin (Tim Post) who snatched her up by her arm. The interaction was not pleasant but Susannah rescued Kat, swinging her up on her horse and taking her to the pond as she asked.

Jacob is in 1814...maybe

While we all pretty much figured Jacob was in 1814 since a future version of Kat said she'd be back for him before she dove into the pod, we're led to believe that even more in "Hanging by a Moment." Susannah questioned Kat about saying Jacob's name while she was recovering from her wound. It was during this conversation that Kat thinks she's learned her brother is still a little boy and he's being raised by the Landrys on their farm.

She was relieved to hear that he is both safe and happy, but she couldn't go to him because she had to get to Alice since they'd gotten separated. At the end of the episode, Kat returned to the past and followed after a little boy who's running through the woods. It's possible that this is a red herring or there's a twist coming in episode 3, so I'm not completely sold on the idea that that's her Jacob but I hope it is!

Elliot lied, Alice didn't stop traveling after Colton's funeral

Well, it turns out we didn't have all the facts about Alice's time traveling. Last season, Elliot told her and Kat that he had no record of her making more appearances in the past. This lined up with Kat's memory since she never saw Alice again after her dad's funeral, but Elliot was lying. He saw her again in 2000 during the worst summer of his life--Jacob was missing, Colton had died, and Kat had run off with Brady.

Teen Elliot blamed Alice for everything that had gone wrong in his life because before she arrived he had a family and now he doesn't. The two did reconcile in the end as Alice apologized for playing a part in his life being ruined because she told him about the future. She believes that's why the pond brought her back to 2000. We still don't know how many times Alice returns to the past, but we do know that it was enough times for teen Elliott to continue writing about it in his notebook.

Elliot blames Kat for Colton's death

In a shocker, during a fight between Elliott and Kat, he admitted that the reason he broke things off with her was because he couldn't deal with her part in the loss of Colton. It's a revelation he hadn't discovered himself until he'd done some reflection while they were apart for seven months. To him, Kat's need to fix things got her father killed and it's not fair that she got five more minutes with him. This was an explosive accusation but it didn't deter her from decision to bring her brother home. Clearly, Elliott has a lot to process with the way both Kat and Alice have upended his life over the past two decades so we may need to buckle up for more tension and potential arguments.

Del's fight to save the farm hits a road block

For a reason we don't know, Del's proposal to expand Crops for Kindness was denied. She'd wanted to use her land as a communal farm that would give young farmers the opportunity to learn the ropes. The profits from said work would go to charities in town. It sounded like an excellent solution to the dilemma she's been put in thanks to her neighbor selling his land to a buyer who has no interest in taking over the lease to farm her land, but it was denied.

When Alice learned that her grandmother could be losing the farm, she chose not to go off to Minneapolis to spend the summer with her father. Instead, she wanted to be there for Del since her mom is going to be busy traveling while likely using the excuse that she's going to be writing a book about the Landrys and Port Haven to explain her absence.
