X-Men ’97 and 5 other series to watch this week (March 18)
As we enter mid-March, TV is kicking back into full steam! ABC has finally started adding new episodes of shows and other networks are making it feel like a regular TV season at last!
That leaves a few notable shows coming this week, from the return of a beloved 1990s property to one of the most anticipated sci-fi shows of 2024! Here's a peek ahead at what to watch for the week of March 18!
X-Men '97
It’s the retro revival fans never expected. To many X-Men fans, the 1990s Fox animated series remains the best adaptation of the classic Marvel characters. Now, over a quarter of a century after it ended, this new animated show picks up right where the original left off in 1997.
The X-Men are reeling from the death of Professor Xavier as well as how arch-enemy Magneto now appears to be in charge. Still dedicated to protecting a world that hates and fears them, the X-Men are set to face off against everything from Sentinels to Mr. Sinister and others in what could be a fantastic revival of a beloved show.
X-Men '97 debuts March 20 on Disney+. Keep up with coverage of the series over on our sister site, Bam Smack Pow.
3 Body Problem
Netflix’s newest effort adapts the acclaimed and award-winning sci-fi novel by Liu Cixin. A Chinese astrophysicist is pulled into a secret government project linked to a possible alien invasion. From there, viewers are pulled into a complex and bizarre search for answers and possibly stopping the end of the world.
Seeing as this comes from the creators of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, as well as Alexander Woo, expect wild twists and some stunning visuals. It should be another entry in Netflix’s epic list of sci-fi shows and the next must-see series for genre fans.
3 Body Problem debuts March 21 on Netflix. Our sister sites Netflix Life and Winter is Coming will be covering the series, so stay tuned for their insights!
Palm Royale
Apple TV+ offers another fantastic all-star comedy for viewers. Kristin Wiig is a woman in 1969 Palm Beach who is determined to become part of the high society crowd at a local country club. She’s soon pulling moves from blackmail to more to get ahead but may regret the cost of this journey.
The cast is to die for, with Ricky Martin and Josh Lucas alongside Oscar-winners Allison Janney and Laura Dern, as well as the legendary Carol Burnett. That alone is going to make this a fantastic show to add to the streamer’s list of all-star comedies that will get attention when awards season rolls back around.
Palm Royale debuts March 20 on Apple TV+.
Davy & Jonesie’s Locker
Shifting gears into something wild, this new Hulu series looks to be a fun sci-fi comedy. Veronika Slowikowska and Jaelynn Thora Brooks play the title characters, two high school misfits who don’t feel like they belong. That becomes literal when they stumble onto a special locker that sends them into the multiverse.
The pair soon land on worlds, from one ruled by their high school rival to another where music doesn’t exist. The pair handle the antics while trying to find their way home. It’s an offbeat show but might become a cult favorite and right up the alley for those who like laughs with a multiverse adventure.
Davy & Jonesie’s Locker debuts March 22 on Hulu.
Top Chef
It’s a bold new look for season 21 of the long-running series. Kristen Kish takes over from Padma Lakshmi as host as the show which is now set in Wisconsin. That means challenges involving dairy farms, a Green Bay Packers game, and more.
As usual, the focus will be on the contestants, a terrific mix of rookies and veteran chefs, all out to make their mark and win the big prize. Expect some fun new challenges alongside the classic showdowns and the Wisconsin setting making this year the start of a new era for the iconic show.
Top Chef season 21 premieres March 20 at 9/8c on Food Network.
Homicide: New York
Dick Wolf is well established as a crime show icon thanks to Law & Order and the FBI shows. This new series from him is a docudrama that focuses on real-life cases handled by the NYPD. It spreads the cases around while talking to the detectives involved.
The show appears to be a great true crime entry that puts a more dramatic spin on the cases. The series has Wolf’s backing and some intriguing tales that will prove real-life murder mysteries can outdo anything on Wolf’s network dramas.
Homicide: New York debuts March 20 on Netflix.
