Young Sheldon season 7 finale preview: A bittersweet goodbye to the series tonight
It's hard to believe that Young Sheldon comes to an end tonight. And it's not just saying goodbye to season 7, but the series as a whole. The final two episodes airing this evening, May 16, 2024, starting at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, will serve as the series finale. Last week the show ended on really tough note, even though we saw it coming that George's death storyline was going to play out. It didnt make it any easier to watch.
We'll get to a recap of last week's episodes in a moment. But first, let's see what's in store for us on Young Sheldon season 7 tonight. First is episode 13, "Funeral." CBS has shared a synopsis, but it doesn't really explain what's in store for the episode specifically. But from the title, trailer, and images, it's clear this installment is going to focus on George's funeral.
In the photos below, Mary and Missy are speaking. They're dressed in black and in the church, clearly signaling this is the funeral. And in the following image, Dr. Strugis and Dr. Linkletter are in attendance to pay their respect.
This is of course going to be so difficult on the whole family, including Mary. Despite what The Big Bang Theory established in terms of her and George's relationship, they were in a very good place right before he died. And so I think we're going to see a lot of emotional beats in this episode for sure. The whole family will need to come together, which you can see below, to support one another. Get ready for more tissues.
The series finale, Young Sheldon season 7 episode 14, is titled "Memoir." This is the episode us The Big Bang Theory fans have been looking forward to as Jim Parsons reprises his role as adult Sheldon, and Mayim Bialik as his wife Amy. As many of you smart viewers have already guessed, the reason we hear Adult Sheldon's narration throughout the series is because he's working on a memoir. That's given away from the title of the episode, as well as confirmed in the sneak peek below. Check it out:
It's great to see Sheldon and Amy's typical banter. I wonder if we'll get to see their kids at all. We know how Sheldon acts with Amy and his friends, but it would be really interesting to see his dynamic with his kids. It seems like we'll be seeing the duo quite a bit in this farewell episode, and that makes me very happy. Hopefully the comedy that we've been watching for seven years will end on a more bittersweet note. And that's the vibe I'm getting. CBS has also shared a second sneak peek from the episode:
A recap of last week's episodes
Last week, there were also two episodes that aired. In episode 11, "A Little Snip and Teaching Old Dogs," George decides to get a vasectomy behind Mary's back when it appears she's getting baby fever babysitting their granddaughter CeCe. But at the end of the episode, Mary tells him she doesn't want another baby after all. While he is relieved, he's also not at the same time because that means he went through the procedure for no reason. Elsewhere, Sheldon has two months left until he leaves for California. And before he goes, he tutors Dr. Sturgis and Dr. Linkletter in what he learned during his time in Germany.
Episode 12, "A New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture," saw Sheldon visit his typical spots like the comic book store one last time as he prepares to say goodbye to his home. He also has lunch with Tam, who graduated the previous year, and visits an old teacher. In exciting news for George, he gets offered a dream job - football coach at Rice University. Mary and Missy are supportive and excited, and it seemed like the family was moving to Houston, Texas. Sheldon is not happy about this change, even though he's moving himself. Mary wanted to get a family portrait of everyone and as the family is waiting for George to arrive, we get the heartbreaking moment when Coach Wilkins and Principal Peterson show up to deliver the news that George suffered a heart attack, and is gone.
While Young Sheldon is coming to an end, there is a spin-off, Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage, that's coming our way this fall 2024. It's not known which of the Young Sheldon cast members and characters might make an appearance yet. Though it has been confirmed that Mandy's parents - Will Sasso as Jim and Rachel Bay Jones as Audrey - will be a part of the new series. The actors have signed on as series regulars. I'm curious to see how the story will continue, especially now that Georgie has lost his father.
The Young Sheldon season 7 finale airs tonight, May 16, 2024, starting at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
