Grey’s Anatomy is one of the longest-running primetime shows of all time. Eventually, all good things have to come to an end, and it’s getting to the point that this medical drama may want to wrap up the storylines.
I know; it’s blasphemous as a Grey’s fan to say this. I do just think that shows should end on a high and not feel dragged out. At times, this drama does feel like it’s dragging. Here are my four reasons for Grey’s to end.
The storylines are repeating themselves in Grey’s Anatomy
When it comes to storylines among the doctors, it’s hard to feel any shock or surprise. A lot of the storylines are repeating themselves. We’ve seen Owen and Teddy struggle with their marriage multiple times, and we’ve seen Ben constantly go back and forth on what he wants to do in life.
It’s hard to remain hopeful about a relationship when the show has constantly proven that good relationships don’t last. The only couple we can really count on is Ben and Bailey! Let’s wrap this up and start something new and fresh for a different type of drama.
The patient storylines don’t have the same oomph to them
Do you remember when Grey’s focused a lot on the patients. There were some heartbreaking storylines that involved them, especially when it came to the children. That’s not been the case for a long time.
Yes, there have been the odd patient storylines, but they are more to serve personal storylines in the doctors instead. Back in the day, the patients had their storylines to make us feel something for them and not just the doctors. If the show can’t get back to that, what’s the point?
There’s the loss of the female friendship
Meredith and Cristina had the female friendship to aspire to have. They supported each other and pushed each other up. Yes, they had a blip here and there, but they are still friends to this day. Once Cristina left, the show lost that.
It’s tried with Amelia and Meredith or with Maggie and Amelia, but it’s just not the same. There isn’t the same level of comradery between the women anymore, and we need to see the show get back to that or end.
New characters aren’t getting time to develop in Grey’s Anatomy
The show has a problem with the huge cast. Newer characters aren’t getting the time to develop and grow. Just look at Mika, who is being written out of the series this season after just getting some amazing storylines. Look at Levi who is also being written out just as his storyline is getting interesting again. Yet, we’re keeping Webber, Owen, Teddy, and even Catherine around!
The show needs to find a way to develop the newer characters, giving the characters equal and fair air time. Otherwise, we just don’t care enough about them, and that leads to us not really caring about the show anymore.
Grey’s Anatomy airs on Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC. Catch up the following day on Hulu.
