That time of year is here. As we close out the calendar year, we get ready for cancellations and renewals. Which of our favorite broadcast TV shows are likely to make it through to another TV season?

Fall 2024 is the most normal fall we’ve had since the pandemic in 2020. Most TV shows got off to their usual September starts, and we’ve had normal fall finales and we’re getting ready for January returns. The broadcast networks have had a mixture of reality and scripted shows.

For this post, we take a look at the scripted lineup. The non-scripted shows have slightly different requirements as they’re not as expensive to make, while the scripted lineup tends to be more focused on linear ratings, especially when it comes to a star-studded lineup.

We’re only looking at the Big 5 broadcast networks. Here’s the statements we’ll make:

Officially canceled/ending: For shows we know aren’t getting another season
Unofficially canceled: For anything that is performing so badly that it hasn’t even gotten a chance to air all episodes
Likely canceled: For shows that aren’t performing as well as we’d like
50/50 chance: For shows that we’re still on the fence about
Likely renewed: For shows that we’re certain are going to get another season (we have been wrong before, though!)
Officially renewed: For shows that we know what the future is already
Too soon to tell: For shows that haven’t had enough episodes to tell, which includes shows that haven’t premiered yet

It's harder to tell with The CW shows as many of them are licensed from other countries, and this makes it much harder for The CW to have any say. We can try, though! It’s more of whether it’ll be licensed again.

The main factor for the predictions is linear ratings. This isn’t the only consideration a network will make, but it is the main one as that determines if advertisers are happy to keep putting money into the timeslots. If networks are seeing strong results via streaming, some shows can be saved, but it’s not normal.

This isn’t to say that we don’t think the show are good. There are some great shows that are on the bubble this year.

Everything is in alphabetical order so you can find your favorite show.
