Monday, Dec. 2's episode of The Bold and the Beautiful picked up right where last Wednesday's left off. Ridge Forrester was urging his COO Carter Walton to re-think his ill-advised choice to attempt to take Forrester Creations on some misguided crusade to "protect" Hope Logan, the recently fired brand ambassador he's been with for two seconds.

Carter tried to shield Hope by stating that his plan was all him, but Ridge knew that Hope had been pushing him to go through with what he cooked up. There's no way that she couldn't have been as ousting Ridge and her rival, Steffy Forrester, benefitted her as it would result in the reinstitution of Hope for the Future and her return to the fashion firm.

Still, Ridge was willing to give his best friend a second chance. It, however, came with strings attached. In order to put this all behind them and right the ship by drawing up new papers for the Co-CEO to sign, Carter would have to break things off with Hope. Ridge, rightfully, believes that she's poisoning the well. After all, Hope has been the one stoking Carter's ire that he's supposedly not being listened to by the Forresters even though they heard him out and simply decided they don't want to be a global conglomerate.

But Carter wasn't willing to cut ties with the woman he supposedly loves and who he has a "deep" bond with even if it means the end of his friendship with Ridge. The Co-CEO hadn't exactly been going at Carter with kid gloves before his ultimatum but he truly didn't hold back when the COO didn't accept his demand and started going on about his mistreatment of the Logans being learned behavior.

It was wild for Carter to assert that Ridge was channeling his mother, the late Stephanie Forrester, and her distrust and hatred for the Logans simply because he decided to side with his daughter, Steffy. The hyprocrisy is at an all time high in this storyline as Carter has accused Steffy of firing Hope for petty personal reasons when he and Hope are trying to steal the company over hurt feelings and being told no.

Ridge, however, had the zinger of the episode when he referred to Carter as a lovesick puppy who's afraid of waking up alone. He completely read his best friend and he's accurate. Carter is jeopardizing his standing in the fashion world, his job, and his relationships all to champion Hope who he doesn't actually know that well and who really could be using him because he desperately wants to be with someone.

All of this could have been resolved had Hope disclosed their romance rather than hiding it and asking Carter and Brooke Logan not to say anything either. But even with the insistence that they stay quiet, Hope also could have moved on. Grieved, too, of course. Her line was a big part of her life but trying to take FC isn't the move and it's shortsighted since it's hard to believe there wouldn't be immediate backlash. Not to mention there would be the loss of the Forresters' talent because they certainly wouldn't be sticking around if their family's company is taken right from under them.

In any case, this storyline isn't over yet because, while Ridge did fire Carter (as he should!), we're still waiting to see whether Justin can get Ridge and Steffy out of the contract they signed that gives Carter control of the company. Whether he can or not will have a major impact on what happens next on the soap and the future of Forrester. Ridge was confident in front of Carter as he dismissed him from his office, the building, and his life but it may not be that simple.
