SWAT Exiles season 1 might not premiere until this September, but Starz is betting big on its latest acquisition! Star Shemar Moore took to Instagram on August 10 to announce that SWAT Exiles has officially been picked up for a second season, with filming slated to begin in a couple of months.
“I got such great news. SWAT Exiles just got picked up for season 2, baby. That’s right. We start shooting in a couple of months, but first mark your calendars because season 2 is coming September 25 exclusively on Starz,” Moore shared.
It’s not at all surprising that Starz is betting big on the SWAT spinoff, and the network is clearly following the lead of Sony Pictures Television, which has bet big on the project from the beginning. Sony Pictures Television greenlit the show’s 10-episode first season before it had the backing of a network, recognizing that this was a franchise worth fighting for.
The next chapter of SWAT will see Moore returning as Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson to lead a new team of officers after a high-profile mission goes wrong. Following the mishap, Hondo is brought out of forced retirement to lead a new last-chance experimental SWAT unit made up of a group of untested and even more unpredictable recruits.
Hondo will face his biggest challenge yet as he works to navigate the many strong personalities on his new team and work to turn this band of outsiders into a team worthy and capable of protecting the city as members of the elite law enforcement agency. It’s more than just his reputation on the line, as this team’s success could be make or break for the program that shaped Hondo into who he is.
Joining Moore in the new spinoff are Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares, and Ronen Rubinstein. Fans can also expect to see a few familiar faces from SWAT dropping in for a few guest spots throughout the season, with Jay Harrington (Sergeant David "Deacon" Kay), Patrick St. Esprit (Commander Robert Hicks), and David Lim (Officer Victor Tan) all set to reprise their roles in the new spinoff.
It's not yet known whether any additional members of the SWAT cast will appear in the first season of SWAT Exiles, but with a second season now confirmed, there is hope that we could see more familiar faces drop in for a guest appearance on the spinoff.
Of course, we'd love to see returns from original cast members Alex Russell (Officer Jim Street), Kenny Johnson (Officer Dominique Luca), and Lina Esco (Officer Chris Alonso), who all played key roles in the early seasons of the show. We'd also love to see the likes of Anna Enger Ritch (Officer Zoe Powell), Niko Pepaj (Officer Miguel Alfaro), and Annie Ilonzeh (Officer Devin Gamble) pop up for a guest appearance. All of these actors and their characters were a major part of the DNA of the show and played major roles in the show's success, so here's hoping season 2 will find a way to bring in more SWAT cameos.
The first season of SWAT Exiles will premiere on Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, with episodes releasing weekly on Starz and the Starz App.
