It's been a long time coming, but there's finally exciting news to share with SWAT fans who have been eagerly awaiting word on when and where to watch the new spinoff series SWAT Exiles. Not only does the upcoming series officially have a network and streaming home, but there's also a release date on the calendar for the highly anticipated premiere.
Over one year after the SWAT series finale aired on CBS in May 2025, there's positive movement on the spinoff series. As reported by Deadline, SWAT Exiles was sold to Starz in the United States by its independent producer and distributor Sony Pictures Television. The series has also sold in every worldwide market, including in Canada where it will air on CTV and stream on Crave.
SWAT Exiles premiere date set for September 2026 on Starz
In addition to the thrilling news that the series now has a place to stream on American television, Starz also set a premiere date for the new series. SWAT Exiles debuts on Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, bringing the franchise back to the fall television schedule two years after the eighth season premiered in October 2024. It won't be long until we're reunited with Hondo!

If you're not a Starz subscriber and were hoping to be able to watch the series on a different, more popular platform, there could be even better news in store. According to Deadline, Sony Pictures Television will be taking a "windowing" approach with the SWAT Exiles release, with Starz getting the first official window of release. Netflix could be next in line for the second-window drop.
SWAT gained even more popularity when the CBS procedural drama began streaming on Netflix, and the streamer was one of the hopeful choices fans had in mind for the spinoff. To this day, all eight seasons of the original series are available to stream on Netflix and the spinoff would be a great companion to have on the streamer. Well, eventually, at least.
Upon Starz's acquisition of the series, Shemar Moore released a statement expressing his excitement for the spinoff's premiere: "SWAT Exiles is coming in hot! I couldn’t be more excited that Starz is bringing this next chapter to audiences in the U.S. A huge thank you to Sony Pictures Television for believing in this franchise and continuing to invest in what we’ve built together. What makes this moment even more special is that we’re reaching audiences in all major territories worldwide. Fans everywhere will get to experience this epic new ride together."
The first season contains 10 episodes and finds Hondo coming back from his forced retirement in order to put his leadership skills to the test. He leads an experimental unit composed of various young recruits that not only test Hondo but each other. It's unlike anything he has taken on in his career, but together, he will whip this team into fighting shape to save the day.
In addition to Moore, SWAT Exiles also stars Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares, and Ronen Rubinstein. For those who loved the original series, some familiar faces will be popping up as Jay Harrington, Patrick St. Esprit, and David Lim are confirmed to be reprising their roles. Hopefully, more will return should the spinoff prove a success.
The first season wrapped filming in February, and Sony being able to sell the series as a completely entity proved much more fruitful in the long run. Ending up at Starz as an acquisition could be one of the best moves for SWAT Exiles and its longevity. But before getting too ahead of ourselves, the countdown is officially on to the show's premiere this fall.
